As everyone seems to be buckling their swash, a book I read a few years back (whilst in my pirate period :D ) was Long John silver

http://www.amazon.com/Long-John-Silver-Adventure-Gentleman/dp/1860465382

A fantastic read with a great swash buckling flavour and Long John, being a true anit hero. Some lovely descriptions of life as a pirate and a few tidbits of history...highly recommended :)

Not sure I like that. I'm not altogether keen on people messing with other author's characters (Flashman excepted, of course).

"Treasure Island" is one of those books that I just love, and have done for years. While I'd like to see more of the Long John, I'm a bit nervous of him being in someone else's hands.

So generally I would run a mile from this type of thing, but if you say it's good maybe I'll give it a go.

(If it turns out not to be good, then I shall put you in one of my games in 28mm form, and make sure you get killed.)

Are you referring to GMF's use of Harry Flashman (originally appearing in another work), or has someone else expanded the Flash-series? Pardon my ignorance, but what happens in the book market outside Denmark largely eludes me....

I was referring to the fact that Flashman was originally a character in the 1857 novel "Tom Brown's Schooldays" by Thomas Hughes.

I'm prepared to make an exception in this case, otherwise we would miss out on the wonderful Flashman world George MacDonald Fraser created for us.

Björn Larsson seems to have a weakness for adventures on sea. I've read "The Celtic Ring", a great novel, somewhat a present-day pirate adventure.
"I'd like to send this letter to the Prussian consulate in Siam by aeromail. Am I too late for the 4:30 autogyro?"
"Uh, I better look in the manual... This book must be out of date. I don't see "Prussia", "Siam" or "autogyro"...

I actually read the book (German translation) and I really liked it!

The writing is good and Larson's version of Silver colorful enough to fill the pages with ease... I really enjoyed it.

Great book! I must have read more than five times over the last 20 years...
