Welcome to the Re-Animator Desk :
Here we are. I'll learn you the secrets to turn a Foundry Ancient German into a Hillbilly.

let's start with a simple Hillbilly.
* Take a classical german warrior, bare chest and hairy (look better with a long hair and beard), like that ones :

* With a Metal/lead leaf, make a typical overalls and glue it on the bare chest of the ex-warrior. This material is ideal for converting dress. It's take the shape of the body without difficulty. The braces are running on the figurines very easily.
I add a small pocket ine the front to be more realistic.

* No hillbilly without a good weapon.
I choose a sawed shotgun made from a redoubt enterprise Henry martini carbine form the zulu range. Cut off the gun barrel and add two plastic hairs taken from a outdoor push broom (see here http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=11918.0)

* i add a whiskey jug in the left hand, to turn our guy into a true hillbilly.

* at the end you'll get something like that :

more to follow !

I'm very impressed with that. Simple, yet very effective. It would also be a good basis for conversions of other hairy types like biker gangs etc. I agree, the bottle is great.

I'm sure he will look splendid once painted :D

I have the same idea than you about bikers and bad guys.
Some samples are nearly available.

I have in stock some "canadian" Woodmen at work, barechest and in trousers with braces. A pistol in one and an axe in the other. these are for my LOTOW Woodmen gang. Special one, with only pistol an axe as weapons, with a tall guy as Leader and many tartan shirts (canadian look).

As i promised, there is a sample about canadian woodmen (spring or summer dress) at the start of the paint job :

Axes are Greapping Beast. The colt is an amazone one (ex-QT Model range).
The guy on the right has the braces down on the trousers, a knife (from the Ancient german figurine) and a colt in a home made holster (made from metal/lead leaf once again).

And now the leader of the Hillbilly's gang.

made from this Ancient german (a musician or a drunken one)  lol  :

The suebian hairknot is removed. A metal/lead leaf hat and overalls are added to make it more typical "deep south".

*The figurine and the hat material before cutting and modelling :

* the horn or wine cup (?) is cut at the both ends and transformed into a beer glass. Two line are scuplt with a cutter to simulate the base and the top of the glass.
After the paint work some foam will be add on the glass !

* A shotgun is created on the base of an Henry Martini carbine (from Redoubt ent.). The barrel is deleted for two barrels made from outdoor push broom hair's. The gun sling is made with piece of metal/lead leaf.

the final conversion :

the back side :

Cheers
Eric

These are going to be great when you get the gang finished  :D

I wonder how easy it would be to convert the horn into a bottle of whiskey instead of a mug?

Don't know if I could manage to paint the Jack Daniels labels accurately though  :?

i take the beer glass option because the bottle would have been too difficult to realized....ok i'm looking for simplicity in my conversion but it's time consuming and has we can say : "Too many figurines, so little time !"   ;)

some news about my work on Hillbillys (excuse me for the poor shoot quality)  :

From this kind of Ancient german pose as base to the conversion :

in fact he has a club in his hand instead of a sword.
Just removed it and bend a little bit the left arm to received the gun. Glue the gun under the right arm. Giving the look of this guy is levelling the gun hammer before firing, while moving.

a new one, barechest with a gun (musket from Redoubt), the left brace on the trouser and the other one on the right shoulder.

Could be use for my canadian woodmen posse like theses :

and this is the Leader at the paintwork, not still finished but i have some trouble with the appearence of the glass of beer...
.

hope you like them

A little bit of thought, time and effort (not to mention skill ;-) and you end up with something really cool :-)

Nice figures.
