I posted some pics of a building I had scratch built for a VSF game on the VSF board. When I was asked how I put it together I posted the build thread on the Workbench board to share with the rest of the LAF.

Soooooooooo does that mean I double posted?

Not by my lights. You posted two completely different topics under their relevant topic headings. What I was objecting to is identical posts cloned between categories. Most often, this seems to be the practice of enthusiastic sellers, who post identical posts under various topic headings to draw attention to their merchandise for sale.

If you've got stuff for sale, post it in the Bazaar and rely on the intelligence of the forum members to decide if what you're selling is relevant to their collections. Don't clutter up the board with advertisements in other categories (sez I).

I often post pictures of painted figures in the "Bazaar of Obscurities" as well as "What I painted this month" threads…is that too much?

I don't see that as a problem as much as the same thread (with the same title) posted in multiple different forums.

No.

If I sell painted figures I always post a picture where I "advertise."

I think this particular annoyance is simply caused when the same topic is posted in more than one area. Oddly, this cross-posting is actively encouraged on TMP, but then they have many more areas than here and most other forums.

It did seem to have calmed down a bit - possibly due to this thread but there have been a couple this week.

But what happens there is quite different. Crossposting there creates a single topic, that can be accessed from whatever boards the original poster chose to crosspost to. There is no crossposting function here, so folks create duplicate topics in different boards. The only problem I can see with it (other than Heldrak's blood pressure) is the tiresome fact that you often have two parallel discussions going on instead of the single unified one there would be if it had been a single topic. Not a big deal, but mildly annoying.

Seriously, when I feel the "urge" to post a new topic, my first reflex is now to use the search function to see if someone’s posted on that topic already…

Yes, there has been a huge resurgence in this bad habit lately (note the 3 identical Hellboy threads, amongst many others). Stop already! All you do by posting duplicate threads is dilute the number of responses you might otherwise get and clutter up the board with redundancy. Knock it off!
