My first and only land ship- The SS Albert
« on: February 02, 2010, 04:49:24 PM »
A few years ago I was overcome by an urge to creat something VSF; Lord knows why. The result was this, my first and only attempt at a Land Ship, The SS Albert. Since I built her, she has sat in a draw in my garage, as I have never really worked out what I should do with her. I though I would dig her out, dust her off and photograph her for you as you seem to be the sort of chaps who apresiate a land ship.
I think she is about 8 years old. The paintings a bit naff compaired to my current standards, but I am please enough with her. What do you think?

This was my first attampt to scrach build anything. This picture shows a close up of her engines. They are made from copper pipe and some GW Bitz.

Refraining from any "Prince Albert in a can" jokes, that is a nice piece! Inspired by the Major General's pieces, perchance?

Nice ironclad look, and the engine section worked out fine, as well.

Looks like a tidy vehicle.

Yes now you mention it. It was the Major General's site that kicked of my Colonial/VSF period. I has forgotten all about him. http://www.zeitcom.com/majgen/

I really really like this design. It has such a grand land ironclad look to it.
Fly the stars and bars and it could be fighting for the Confederacy.

Thanks for digging it out and posting the pics.

I have known Rob for over 25 years, and I don't think I have ever seen this model! Nicely built Rob, kudos.

A nice casement design, there, and inspirational. That gun protruding through the front port looks the business! A couple of suggestions only; you could replace the ensign and nameplate with decals, and give it a little more overall weathering?

As for game ideas, I seem to recall the Major-General's group were issued a challenge to come up with landship designs within a rough set of parameters. The resulting models were then put into two sides for a grand knock-down-drag-out melee.

Try and shoot the S*** out of them with big field guns and then run if they survive  lol

Seriously, look through the archives for threads by the likes of Malamute, Thorbjørn Nielsen, thejammedgatling etc etc and you will find lots of lovely games involving landships and all sorts of other VSF loveliness  :D

Sorry I'm late to the party.

She's a lovely vehicle. :-*

Gluteus is right, have a look back through some of the game reports to see some of the madness. :)

Very nice landship, for some reason it reminds me of a stretched limo - perhaps it's the butler with his bottle of chilled champers  :)

Well if you are contemplating going on an African adventure in a landship, you might as well do it in style  ;)
