Silflor tufts
« on: 05 February 2010, 05:51:30 AM »
What size grass tufts are folks generally using to decorate their bases? A friend is heading down to Scenic Express in the US in a week or so to pick up some stock for his store and has offered to grab me some.  I'm assuming most people are using the Prairie Grass variants.  Has anybody tried the newer Buffalo Grass?

Cheers,
Mike

For the regular Silflor tufts, I use both 6mm and 4mm on 28-32mm models.

Colour-wise, it depends what you're going for. For my arid bases, I used the two-tone late autumn 4mm tufts, and drybrushed them a bit with a pale buff (something like Bleached bone would probably do too). The 4mm late autumn tufts can be seen below (click on image for a larger size):

For more a temperate prairie/field I got a mixture of single- and two-tone spring and early summer tufts in 6mm, which look great on a brown base.

Not tried the buffalo tufts (yet), but am curious to see a good review of them!

Have used both types of Silflor tufts and must say that I am really impressed with their products. They are easy to use for a variety of scales and are very realistic looking - even if somewhat on the expensive side.

This thread more or less served as a prod and I ordered my first Siflor tufts.  CAN'T WAIT FOR THEM TO ARRIVE.  Thanks for the reminder Archangel.

Actually, I'm still waiting myself.  My friend had to postpone his trip for a bit.  His wife is seriously ill and her health is more important at the moment.  Quite right, too.
