Back on thread, I wonder if we might see some village cricketers after the morris team ? Village characters could be useful too, poacher, verger, vicar, postmistress etc..... John Nettles surrounded by corpses...

There is certainly scope for more unusual characters in this vein. VBCW seems to go either; down the historical route as with Musketeer's excellent militias etc, or down the surreal route with the Morris men etc. Certainly I'd like to see the latter explored more. Certainly many gaps can be filled by poaching from various pulp and Cthulhu ranges, but I think there's room for some specifically English types... cricket team and Women's Institute are the obvious subversives missing. Obviously they could also be used for 'Went the day well?" type settings for WW2 as well.

that is superb! Are they all conversions, or has someone actually made cricketers with machine guns? love it.

Ihad envisioned VBCW as urban, and gritty, but I have a vison now of a rural english battlefiels, with duck pond and cricket pavilion- it could be a lot of fun and an excuse to use a lot of the railway scenics that are just too english to be used fro anything war game.

In my highly personal world of a VBCW (which stem from my own south Scottish town of Monimasket and the kennel club which I have showcased here) various factions use the civil wars to settle old scores as it suits them during a particular week. Alliances may shift from battle to battle.

Now, that is a range of which I'd buy dozens! Hammers, that is truly wonderful. And I can see the Morris dancers fitting in perfectly. I'd be tempted to commission an Inspector Barnaby and Troy or a Miss Marples to complete the vignette.

They are conversions, mostly. Left to right: Renegade HMG, Woodbine, Musketeer x2, Hasslefree, Artizan x2, Woodbine. Wicket, trolley and Stokes mortar are brass tubing/wire scratch builds.

I don't know if you are serious and mean a painting commission. I don't do commissions but I do have a number of police types in the pile for myself waiting to get painted.

Suppose it depends on your setting : urban factories and mills are fine for some areas, but there are plenty of rural counties - we're on the North Yorkshire coast, apart from the old gasworks on the edge of town, and the Co-op dairy bottling plant we don't have any really gritty industrial areas. Otherwise we have fish docks and seaside attractions.
A lot of players are setting games in Somerset or Northumberland/Durham, both rural settings although Durham has coal mines, and there's plenty of industry around the Tyne.

The Morris men figures are excellent. Morris dancing I can respect as a folk tradition.

Isn't there a large part of Patagonia that speaks Welsh too ?
True.

Yes, largely due to the preponderance of sheep down there. Pockets of Welsh speakers around Trelew.
The Welsh are no more fond of sheep than any other nation.

Allegedly, during the 1982 Falklands War, members of the Welsh Guards were astonished to find themselves taking prisoner Argentian conscripts from Patagonia who spoke Welsh like them.
True, a co-worker of mine guarded and spoke to a number of them. This was reported on Welsh news but not the British news.

I an not, and never will be a morris dance. to be honest I think they are a bit odd, but I respect them for preserving something distinctly English (as opposed to British- A subtle difference only the English can understand)
I bet the Welsh, Scottish and Irish understand.

Genius.

Guys I've split the topic and put the 'English identity' debate into open talk... hopefully we can continue on there.  :D

I'll put my hands up to being complicit in derailing this thread, but can we leave it to GB Morris men and interwar ta.  ;)
