« on: February 12, 2010, 08:08:57 PM »
Sorry if this has already been posted but has anyone seen the Salute 2010 free vignette?

http://www.salute.co.uk/salute2010/basic.htm

Good start to my Pulp collection.

Don't!

I don't really like it very much.
I wouldn't be too fussed if I don't get one.

I would rather have cheaper entry to the show than have the show figure. £9/£11 to get into what is basically a shop is more than I am willing to pay. I can save that money and buy more by mail order instead. That said, last few times I was there I was putting on games so entry was free, but I had virtually no time for looking around and just did a highly focused shopping run.

In that case I'll keep you well supplied with tea and buscuits while I'm there.

lol I'd take that over the fig!

Nah, I think I'll be buying on the door.  ;)

It's not a bad sculpt, it just isn't what I'm into. I think the sculptor could have made it more obviously retro sci-fi where I feel he may have only dipped his toes in.

I really like the robot! The girl, not as much. Not a bad little piece though! Will we be seeing it painted by Mr. Thunderchicken?

That's normal Salute policy, isn't it - only giving out the promos to paying guests?  I've noticed traders and game organisers unhappy about it before.

I love it. I'm getting my £9 ticket asap (mainly to help convince the missus to let me go - "darling, it won't be long, I'll be getting in early, buying a few things and then leaving").

The girl will go nicely with my Dark Eldar (yes really) and the Robot of Doom will paint up for fun and giggles.

I think it's the relationship between the two that's a bit off.  Nothing about her pose or expression says "there is a huge robot looming over me", and she's not even looking straight at it.  Not really up to Adam Clarke's usual high standards, perhaps.

I've put on a few games in the past and have been given mugs, figures etc. I guess they must just give out extra ones.

cheers

Yeah have to agree. Last years' was excellent. I really feel it may have been rushed. He is an incredibly talented sculptor regardless.

Personally, I think separately each has good potential. While originally 'put off' a bit, additional consideration suggests that different paint and photography might yield better results.  I love the robots claws for instance and the heroine’s hair smacks you as right out of the 60's.  There is one other great potential that the sculptor perhaps left open.

Consider this:  Put a little more bend in the girls left elbow (an easy modification) then add a small length of chain running from her left hand to the robot's right foot, perhaps a small grapple wrapped around the leg make from a small #12 or #14 treble fishing hook. (with the barbs removed of course)  Now you have a vignette with more depth, adding a comical element and at the same time illustrating the deep seated concept - "The creature is not superior to the creator". (Deep moral resonance.)
