GWM Jaeger Officers
« on: 13 February 2010, 09:22:34 PM »
Hi All,

New poster.

I’ am slowly working my way through the GWM 1914 Jaeger Command blister pack.
There are two officers in the pack one in a Shako and the other with a peaked cap. I have looked through several of my Osprey books, but I’ am still stumped as to how to paint the cap and their shoulder boards? Also do I need to paint on anything to identify the NCO figures?

Your help would be appreciated.

Nick

Hi, welcome to the forum. The cap would have a green band I think. Shoulder straps would be the same as their line infantry counterparts, apart from the piping being green and again NCO's would have collar and cuff lace in button colour as per line infantry.

Somewhere, I have a fairly comprehensive uniform guide to the German Jaeger. Alas, my wife has a passion, dare I say mania, for moving the furniture incuding my bookshelves around so it may take a week or more to find the damn thing.

If my memory serves, then the cap band for the officer's peaked cap should be green along with the piping on the crown. Cockades depend on the state identity of the regiment, Prussian, Bavarian Saxon etc.

Senior NCO's would be distinguished by 'tressen' a strip of lace running around the front and bottom of the collar, usually metallic but in the case of Bavaria in the blue/white cheequerboard IIRC.

Thanks for the link Helen, this was most helpful.

I had a good look around the site for the Jaeger Officers shoulder boards but couldn't find an answer.
Also the musician had lace shoulder detail, would this be gold or sliver?
