Trees WIP
« on: February 14, 2010, 12:52:39 PM »
Hi,

Here is a couple of photos of some scenery pieces I am working on atm -

and a few corner pieces as well -

I'm still working on the larger corner piece - it has been painted with emulsion paint, and dry brushed with VMC colours. The tree bases need finishing ; the base has to be flocked and "sceniked" generally .

I have just got to work out, now, how to resize the photos, doh!

Thanks Guys for the comments,

I enjoy making scenery, especially dense undergrowth and hills, although I can not take credit for the tree trunks. They are from Sanpdragon studios, but I don't think they are available any more.

There are a few more photos available here-

And here is quick photo of a bear hunt in progress ...

... although the bear has escaped !

These are looking great. I'm a bit of a scenery freak myself but never seem to be able to paint realistic looking tree trunks. Could you tell me which colours you used to paint your trunk as it looks brilliant.
...and what fresh new hell is this?

Hi,

@ Stavros "Could you tell me which colours you used to paint your trunk as it looks brilliant"

That one caught me on the hop - I normally grap the nearest "tree" liike colour thats on the bench at the time, but I'll make a stab at it.

All my scenery, including tree stumps are undercoated with a cheap, quick drying paint from Wilkinsons, colour "Conker". For detail, the first dry brush coat is either VMC 886 Green/Grey or VMC 879 Green/Brown. both give a good base to work up. Mid-tone dry brush VMC 988 Khaki and highlight with a gentle dry brush of VMC Iraqi Sand.

To add a bit extra I also do a light and patchy stipple of VMC 888 Olive Grey to one side of the trunk and a very smal amount of VMC 929 Light Brown/ GW Orange mix (50/50) to the other, just to give the impression of lichen etc.

I also use VMC Flat Brown as a light stipple to give variation on the different scenery pieces.

It also helped photographing the bases outside in very bright sunlight.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that, very much appreciated. I must have tried every combination of paints going but have never managed to get a finished result that I was happy with. I will give your suggestions a try and let you know how I get on.

Thanks again  :)
