Help with choosin 15mm Prussians :)
« on: 26 February 2010, 02:32:14 AM »
Can someone help me with chosing what manufacturer to use for 15mm Prussians :) ?

I own 10 Irregular Miniatures Prussians (great detail level, many poses), but they are a little bit bigger than 15mm (16.5-17mm to the level of eyrs), so I will use them as decoration figures, not for games. (not mine photo)

But I am planning to use my Bismarck for games (even if he 17mm.)

The other 15mm Prussian are found:
Minifigs
http://www.miniaturefigurines.co.uk/Catalogue.aspx?ScaleID=2&CategoryID=13&SubCategoryID=82

Old Glory
http://oldglory15s.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=201_395&sort=3a

Rank and File
http://oldglory15s.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=483_485&sort=3a

Freikorps
http://quickreactionforce.co.uk/catalog/index.php/cPath/22_88

Frontier Miniatures (cant email to owner :( )
http://ukfrontier.tripod.com/ukfp.htm

I like the Minifigs and Freikorps firures (I havent found Old Glory and Rank and File pics. Also I like Frontier Miniatures, but I cant send an email to them)

BUT! Minifigs prussian have only 1 pose :( No firing or kneeling figs

But their Command are great

Also Minifigs are trully 15mm

Freikorps have HUGE VARIETY on infantry, cavalry. BUT, according to this page http://www.deepfriedhappymice.com/html/figrev_sy_freifpw.html their infantry are 16-17mm.

But I can always use some of their figures for non main troops (They have personalities and many jagers versions. Aslo they have great artillery)

So the question is still open: What manufacturer to use for main Prussian force?

LOL!  I just discovered Outpost and made an order earlier (not in your genre, though).

16.5-17mm is big?  I recently got into 15mm (doing Colonial and will do zombies), and   every figure I have so far averages  is at or near 17mm to top of head (Stone Mountain, Old Glolry, Peter Pig, Rebel Minis).

I figured out the scale at almost 1/96, and decided on 1/100 for simplicity (and that's the scale I used for a ton of buildings I made, so I hope all the other manufacturer's 15s are similar  :?)  NO WAY are any of the 15s I've seen 1/120 scale.  That is way too small!

Glad to hear good things about Friekorp, as I am doing an order there tonight!   :)

Sorry I can't be of much help, I don't have any experience or knowledge of the 15mm Prussina era.

I would assume GFI 15s figures would be smaller, (like their 25s compared to others)????

Here are my Bedouins (actually its Freikorps 15mm Franco-Prussian range Spahis)

Well, most of my 15mm civilians and then russian, hunters, gunfighters are exact 15mm.... Maybe I will use 18mm Irregular Miniatures Prussians for games, just repainted their pants into white, that makes them Garde Grenadiers :) (Grenadiers always very tall)

What I like in Freikorps is their artillery range! Just look at these guns:

http://quickreactionforce.co.uk/catalog/index.php/cPath/22_176_181

siege artillery!

Black Hat Miniatures have just released the first Prussians in their Martian Empires range. As the Command, Advancing and Firing packs are in standard uniform you could use them as straight forward Prusians. Throw in the Gasmask pack and you have VSF  :)
I'm not a mercenary. Killing's more of a hobby for me.

These guys produse Maori Wars and Pony Wars and ACW ranges (which also can be found here http://www.15mm.co.uk/ , but without Maori Wars) wich are very good.

I'm afraid not, but the fact they have ranges that Alternative Armies' own the rights to kind of worries me.

What I mean is that if AA has the rights to the ranges, then Battleline shouldn't be casting them anymore.
However, I may have the wrong end of the stick so don't worry.  :)

I found these 2 pages from TMP about these castings:
http://theminiaturespage.com/man/battleline/
http://theminiaturespage.com/man/tabletop/

Quote from second link:
"We're told the company has shut down, with the ranges sold to Alternative Armies and M.Y. Miniatures. Also, see Battleline Miniatures.
