I will be keeping my vote a closely guarded secret, but it is difficult, because of the plethora of options.

I am normally a purist, in that if it was not written by Howard, I tend to not take it seriously, but since the theme is Savage Sword of Conan, I think everything I saw falls under that heading.

To be honest I found nothing about harpies as I made some research for this team, but as Howard was inspired by classical history and myth I figured it would be a plausible match.

There's a Solomon Kane story that involves 'harpies', so it's not a stretch imagining that there are similar creatures in Hyborea.

I dunno if it's even fair to say this, but that's pretty the reason I didn't vote for Hammers' piece. It certainly looks very visually impressive, but the criterion of voting in this wasn't 'which is the best looking?' but 'which best exemplifies Howard's work?'

Though I like Hammers' piece it doesn't say 'Conan (etc)' to me half as much as some of the others.

Thanks to all who voted in the poll, and as you can see we have a clear winner - the indomitable :

HAMMERS!
Well done Peder. Richly deserved  :)
Fully one third of the total electorate reckoned the true spirit of Robert E Howard permeated your work. An out and out slamdunk and massive lead over the next nearest contender who was ahem.. mumble mumble

UncleRhino, thanks again for putting up the unique prize of the Robert E Howard biography, autographed by the author.
Would you be kind enough to make contact with Hammers via PM to arrange where to send it? Thank you.

And thanks once again to all who entered a Hyborian-alike team, and all who took the trouble to wade through 23 entries and vote for just one of them  :)

I am surprised since I knew close to nothing of Hyboria and its inhabitants before I entered my contribution. I attribute my victory to the power of full frontal nudity which will obviously beat a pair of naked buttocks any day, however perky they may be.

On a more serious note I am a little bit moved to, since Can O'Beer, the Littelest Hammers, was in a shocking bad ways up until recently and feel like I've been  in the wrench like claws of harpies myself, ones not at all as alluring as mine.

Thank you all

...except Red Orc ;)

Well done Hammers.
I must admit that I am no Conan expert but
I used to read a lot of Conan books years ago. The one thing I seem to remember was a lot of wizards and monsters, aways there to be killed by the hero of the story. Thats why I didn't think it was at all strange to see Conan fighting harpies or any other mythical creature for that matter.

Aside from the Solomon Kane tale, I could have sworn one of later 'authors' wrote a tale or two involving winged humanoids.  For some reason Lin Carter is the first name to come to mind.

Well done Hammers.

Well...Almuric was unfinished at Howard's death, but features winged humanoids, that and the Solomon Kane story spring to mind immediately for me, but I am not awake enough to recall a title at the moment.

Lin Carter did all sorts of things...

Terrific work, Hammers, the pm is sent and the book is on the way to Mark as we speak.
