The LPL4 Round 1 Robert.E.Howard special award RESULT!
« on: March 02, 2010, 03:59:29 PM »
Here we have a special (Huge!) poll to win a spot prize kindly put up by UncleRhino - who turns out to be a leading luminary in the world of Robert E Howard appreciation...  :)

UncleRhino is a member of the Robert.E.Howard United Press Association, and one of his fellow members, Mark Finn, has written what is, to date, the definitive biography of R.E.H.

Ryan (UncleRhino) has a spare copy which Mark has agreed to autograph for the winner, with the following inscription:

"To <whoever>, also known as <whoever>, for bringing to life the art of Robert.E.Howard in miniature as decided upon by his peers at the Lead Adventure Forum. Mark Finn"

All the LAF membership need to do, is decide which of the LPL4 Round 1 Hyborian-themed entries shown below, most merits this very generous recognition  :)

Please note I have only included those entries from Round 1 which were specifically Hyborian  / Barbarian themed - and not included any entries consisting of historical or other generic fantasy-themed figures.

So vote away. You need to pick one from the 23! Good luck  lol

That’s strange… there’s some entries in this selection that I wouldn’t know that they were about a "Conan" subject… Then again, I do not know the Conan's univers very well.

Anyhow, I voted for Wesfalia Chris entry’s as they are obviously Barbarian… and there’s a whole lot of them too! lol
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://www.kingdomtitans.ca/us/

Well I've included all the round 1 entries that either included a Hyborian refernece in the title, or are obviously Conan-style barbarians. Think I got them all...  ;)

All entries are worthy, but the Harpies diorama is a piece of art. Also, there's Howard's actual 'spirit' included. ;)

Captain Blood, who produces those figures in your entry?

Anyone else? Dolmot, yours? D@rth J@ymes, who makes the Red Sonja you're using?

Prof., where did the Frost Giant and the ogre come from?

Chamberofminiatures, how about yours?

Thanks in advance, everyone....!

Well done to you all....!!

The archer on the right of my picture is a Copplestone own-brand caveman. The other three male barbarians are ex-Grenadier (now carried by EM4 and others), also sculpted by Copplestone. The female is a Reaper figure - some kind of Shamaness / Witch - out of production, but you can still pick her up from Miniature Giant.

The mounted barbarians are from the old Grenadier line, sculpted of course by Coopplestone. Great stuff!

Mark Finn?  Blood & Thunder: The Life and art of Robert E. Howard?   :)
That, was a fantastic Bio.  Read it last summer when I was going through all of my R.E.H. fantasy and horror.  It was a very enlighting and entertaining read.  Not sure if I used it as a scource for a paper, but I do know I'll use it some day.  The book made me very curious about Howard's other fiction, and once my semesters over I'll try and pick some of it up.

The harpy piece is the most brilliant out of all the entries.  Not only is is well exceuted and painted, but the little touch at the bottom, of R.E. Howard and his dog really sold it for me.   :D

It was truly great to see all of those Copplestone barbarians come out to play.  How many of them sat in a lead mountain for an age waiting the loving caress of the brush?

I will be keeping my vote a closely guarded secret, but it is difficult, because of the plethora of options.

I am normally a purist, in that if it was not written by Howard, I tend to not take it seriously, but since the theme is Savage Sword of Conan, I think everything I saw falls under that heading.  Keeping in mind that Conan exists in a peplum (fur diaper)for the entire run of the comic, weapons are oversized, so forth and so on, I have set aside all bias.

Thanks to you all for displaying such terrific work.

Oh, and calling me a "leading luminary" on about anything is an imaginative exaggeration, but that is just how Howard might have written it.

Ryan
