Wicker baskets and Bazzar items in 28mm?
« on: May 22, 2007, 05:34:37 AM »
Does anyone know where I can find wicker baskets and assorted pottery type stuff, as well as bazzar type items in 28mm? I know Eureka makes a Middle East Bazzar pack of minis, and that's already on my list. But wondering if there's anything else out there, short if making my own.

Steve Barber has several bazzar items in his range, including market stalls. They include baskets, both full and empty, veggies, flowers and bales of cloth I think.

Not bad. Marketstalls are better scratch built, but those little fiddly items look the business.

You need to go to any large general craft store.

Look in the bead section of  for pottery-type items. Or the small wooden thingy section for  little acorn cups that make large water pots.

Go over to the scrapbooking section to find striped papers that make great awnings for scratchbuilt stalls.

Find balsa and bass wood there also, and those cheap craft sticks like tongue-depressors, which cut up into tables, doors and other wooden objects.

Tim Peterson had a rather good page on making your own market items from beads and stuff. His site is gone but thanks to the Internet Archives, you can still see it here.

Those Black Cat stalls are nice too. Do they come with all the items on top of the stalls? Or are those seperate?

Tim (Gizby) Petersons' stuff I remember seeing years back and I knew the site had closed. (Tim's heavy into Combat Zone stuff now I guess). Some excellent stuff there indeed and glad it survives in archives. Large, spider webbed archives.

I have some of these. They look great and are very easy to paint.

I had fogotton about Gisby's market stall page - it contains some great ideas I can use for my Chinese town. Thanks for reminding me.

While on the subject of market stalls and similar, can anyone help me with the folowing:

1 - A source for a suitable wooden wash tub (for my laundry)

2- Ideas for fires or other cooking arrangements for Chinese food vendors -since I can't resort to the modern street vendor's method of putting a wok on a propane gas burner!

Bullshot, if you want to model Chinese street scenes, you want to take a look at the Streets of Old Hong Kong line from King and Country. It's the wrong scale but it is full of ideas :

Your Chinese cooks might look ok with some kind of charcoal grill, like a chafing dish perhaps ? Think terracotta barbecue - a bit like those chiminea things that you get for patio heating but without the tall chimney-like top.

Hi, yes our market stalls come complete with the metal tops, but they are seperate to the tops in the kit and we can do just one or the other if you prefer, no problem!
Jo:)
