Anyone familiar with Tiger Miniatures?
« on: 19 March 2010, 04:32:50 PM »
Anyone have experience with these guys, especially German colonials?

For example: http://recreationalconflict.lusagi.com/tigerimages/full/GC-02.JPG

Thanks.

No direct experience myself, but they don't seem to have had the most wonderful of reviews here:

If they are your only option then buy them, otherwise try other companies for better sculpts. I don't enjoy slagging off wargames companies, but I'm afraid I just don't like their current figures. Hopefully they will improve future releases  :?

Do a search on LAF for Tiger Miniatures and you should get plenty of links to past Tiger threads with pics and objective criticism by better people than me  :)

They're not pretty, you could do better spending your money elsewhere.

When it comes to Tiger Miniatures I will not be bashful but tell you that they are rubbish compared to the general standard of the business.

They do however carry some of HLBS' old stuff which is not bad at all.

Tiger miniatures models are variable - I've got some of their Spam-Am American Marines, and they are fine. They certainly aren't Perry or copplestone level, but they are probably better than old glory and about the same as early redoubt. (although fairly chunky & tall). Heck, I even got compliments on them last game they were in!

Then again, I also own their Herro/hotentot figures, and they really are ugly sculpts. Not a problem for what I wanted them for (conversion fodder to be made into low grade modern african militia), but if i had brought them specifically then I'd have been disapointed.

I've always had really good service from them, and in my experaince they dispatch quickly. They are also comparatively cheap figures.

So, overall, I'd say that it's worth picking through the range. There are some very poor bits, and some reasonable bits. Perhaps the best bet would to be order a pack of the set you want, and then go from there?

I do have lots of Tiger Miniatures, mostly Balkan Wars, and among them some german colonials.
When I started my German colonial Army Tiger were not available to me and now I own  their new releases like artillery crews etc and a couple of mounted ones. These are very good.

All the equipment is very good as are the pack animals. The figure ranges are variable but are useful and do fill gaps not provided by other companies

Another vote for their pack mules.  They are the only Tiger figs I own, but they're lovely.

I've never seen their mules, only their 19thC humans, so I've had a look in their equipment section. It's nice to see that the mules, wagons and guns are rather nice castings and reasonably priced. The open topped mule cart would be very useful for all sorts of periods and there are never enough pack mules available for those expeditions into the jungle.

I might just order some stuff after all  :)

This is true and I should retract. I was thinking of the figures which are mostly no good.

I had a look at their stand at WMMS yesterday and their latest releases are quite good. I bought a few packs from their Balkan Wars range and I'm very happy with them. Admitteldy some of the colonial range looks a bit ropey. While having a browse Svennn pointed out the deck eqiupment range which is being expanded, the deck gun is very nice indeed. Kicking myself for not buying a few at the time.
Don't!

I have the East African askari moutain artillery crew plus the pack mules and handler.  They aren't bad, a bit heftier than my Brigade figures though and not as detailled.  However, considering they are not used among the more detailled units, they are a good fit!

I saw them at WMMS couldn't get anything as they didn't take card though!

They seem to look fine when they're painted. I wonder if they have sorted the metal out. Sounds like aluminium to me!  :(
