Snowmobile models?
« on: 19 March 2010, 09:05:42 PM »
I'm currently reading a french comics called "Le grand jeu" (the great game, which i'd strongly recommend to this group). A part of the action takes place in the polar circle and nazis are using snowmobiles.

Having seen the forthcoming dust tactics figs, I was thinking to put up scenarios inspired by what could have been operation hi-jump (us sending 4500 men in antartica in 46 for god only knows what): allied attack in new swabia's nazis secret base.

Does anyone knows if any suitable 40's or 50's looking model exists? I know about Copplestone's snowcat but I'm looking for individual snowmobile models.

Thanks

Wouldn't know what a 1940s snowmobile would look like, but could you use kettenkrads for the Germans ?

Thanks for the idea.

I would be looking for something on skis with propeller on the back. Here's a very interesting link showing ww2 soviet snowmobile of the like and a german tatra:

Maybe a bit too modern, but could still be used for weird war:

Hei,

I saw something that you looking for, but I think it was in 1:35.
Would it help?

If I could just remeber where.

I have to think about it.

But maybe you could build something like that, its an alternative StarWars landspeeder

And an snowspeederconcept

The guy who made the drawings took the WW1 as concept, but you can do something similar for the Second.

I let you know as soos as I remember about the modell.

Oh, and about the comic, do you have a link to it, sounds interesting.

I'd forgotten about the areo-sleds.

I think I saw one in 1/35 afew years back but not sure that I have ever seen anything small enough for gaming yet.

There was a thread on here quite some time ago about aero sleds. I feel certain they were 28mm with something like BAM crew but they may have been scratch builds?

Maybe you could kitbash a 1/43rd James Bond Gyrocopter? remove the rotor replace the wheels with skis and hey presto.... ;)

I think I saw some James Bond stuff in a smaller scale last summer - I'll have to wait for the better weather to see if the seaside gift shops still have any.

Thanks a lot for all your replies.

Here's a link to "Le grand jeu" comics. Really worth the read:

I'm planning a 28mm project so unfortunaly the plusmodel aerosleigh does not qualify, which is really too bad because it's exactly what I'm looking for.

I'll have to go either for a heavy conversion or a scrathbuilt  :? . I think i remember some ww2 small german gyro whose cockpit could be used.
