haunebu models?
« on: 19 March 2010, 09:25:35 PM »
I only know one model of haunebu II but the scale is 1/144 (and the price quite high). Does anyone knows a suitable ufo model in plastic that could be customized to cive it an "iron sky" look?

Thanks again.

Pegasus Hobbies make a 1/72nd scale UFO that looks very nice, is reasonably priced and could be converted by simply adding another top; the slots in the hull could be used as gunports for adding autocannon or similar.

Here's a nice review: http://www.starshipmodeler.com/Other/jl_pegufo.htm

I always wanted to buy one for my Retro scifi figures, but didn't get around to buying one.

Apart from that, there's always scratchbuilding, for example by using plastic or acrylic dishes. I built a smallish Nazi Saucer some years back:

Depending on the size, finding suitable dishes *might* be a bit difficult.

There are paper models available:
Haunebu III:

I simply converted that one into a 28mm scale Haunebu II by adding a vertical ring for the crew compartment and the KSK gun and glued aluminum foil onto the paper fuselage after the model was finished:

Always a fallback position for me when needing to restock my raw materials and bits bins, browse your local charity-thrift shops, always aisles and shelves of mismatched-orphan tableware and other plastic containers for the taking.

Good Hunting !

Here´s the story behind it:

Zis reads "Caution! Power-ray: Stay behind screen while it works", Herr Oberstleutnant.
Zere is only one lever wiz an on and off position. Currently it is "off".

So tell me Unteroffizier Krämer, what comes next?
What says ze manual?

Zere is nothing in particular, Herr Oberstleutnant. Herr Hauptmann, did you find anyzing?

Regretfully not, Unteroffizier. One of us must do it. Achtung Unteroffizier Krämer! Stand up and switch that lever!

The secret KSK-Kraftstrahlkanone (power ray gun) in its prototypical version. The gun should arm the Haunebu flying discs or "Reichsflugscheiben". I built it from a pencil sharpener I got from guild member James Forrest and various plastic parts from my bits box for a game we´ll have tomorrow. I started it yesterday after work and finished it just an hour ago. That´s perhaps the fastest model build I´ve ever done. No spectacular paintjob, mainly some drybrushing and a lot of washes and some detail painting here and there, but I quite like the look of it now:

It does indeed look great.  But you neglected to mention that you added freehand Gothic lettering!   :o Wow.

Aaaargh! :) Thankyou once again Michi. May I suggest the saucer was mistaken identity for one of these;

Not bad though I looked for a raygun and that one looks more like a broadcasting device.
