Japanese/Chinese?
« on: March 22, 2010, 10:30:25 AM »
Hey guys

I picked up some Back of Beyond CHinese yesterday...

I got the Marching ones in Flat Caps, Officers in Flat caps, the Dare to Die troops and the executioner pack.

I'd prefer to do them as Japanese, but I was wondering whether the latter two are too obviously chinese... ???

Give us a hand guys!  :D

Dare to Die troops - ignoring the obvious Kamikaze troops - add in a few satchel charges and you have an Elite close combat troop for tackling enemy steam-tech.

Executioner pack - the guys with swords - I'd use them as character types for the extra troops you are going to buy.  ;)

I reckon if you swap the rather large/silly Chinese swords for a katana then I don't see any problems. Also if you feel up to it, some blue dragon tattoos Yakuza style would fit the bill.

Ahh yeah, Yakuza is a good way to go! Swap them over for Katana. Don't TAG do some seperate ones?

Mr.Dodo (Edward!), I certainly hope you are!  :D

I really like these figures and as it is VSF I don’t see a problem as using them as Japanese. I like the idea of changing the sword though. That would clinch it and stop people saying they are Chinese. I think the uniforms are not too different and a suitable paint job would do for Japanese.

You don’t happen to want a swap do you? I have the do or die troops for my Chinese VSF army and I painted up the bare chested ones for my last round of the LPL. To make a full unit of ten I was after 4 or 5 other bare chested ones. I would swap you 4 or 5 uniformed ones, if you are up for it? I have already based and undercoated them black though!

Mac, I'm afraid they are miniatures I have wanted for a long time! I've just needed an excuse to buy them.

I might buy another set of them soon though, and when I do, I will happily make that swap!  :D

I'm making these guys Japanese. I have some Russians, and they NEED Japanese to fight!

So what have you guys done for them? I saw some wonderfully simple conversions of Warmachine Man'O'War miniatures which I will do the same too if the creator does not mind!

I think they might be my next project after the Prussians, so I am looking for ideas people!

My Dare to Die Fanatics are going to turn into Yakuza Gangsters, Chinese copplestone figs are going to be painted like Japanese and that's it!

What other figures are usable? ???

I need a leader type as well, not sure what to do for that...

Excellent!

I always doubted the Redoubt sculpts. Are they up to it? I like action pose leaders, they need to stand out a lot I think.

I'm going to convert the uniformed Executioner from the Chinese Executioner pack into a leader with Samurai sword... :D

There a little thin compared to some models out there but they look fine against my Walker so i'm more than happy.

Hopefully i can get them based and at least undercoated this weekend.  If the weather holds i may get the spray gun out to do the undercoat and base layer on them all.

The Parroom station figs now sold by Brigade have the Smoke Stalkers and a few nice characters.
So many projects..... so little time.......
