Anyone Here Done A Pirates VS Cannibals Game?
« on: 17 April 2010, 05:07:37 AM »
1) If so, what kind of terrain pieces did you include on your table?

2) What rules worked best?

3) Do you have pictures posted somewhere?

Dan, what pirates are you planning on using?  15mm, right?

I painted up those thouroughbred Barbary Pirates, and they are swell.  The GFI range is good too.  I need to get Blue Moon's next.

here is Thouroughbred:  (great ships too)

Old Glory has 15mm and 28mm ships that rock as well.

BTW, Thouroughbred Barbarys can be used just fine as Zanzibar slavers, river Arabs, and such for Darkest Africa/VSF

Glad to be here.

Smokey, did you take pictures of those Barbary Pirates, after you painted them?  And, are you planning to have some cannibals chase them?

Personally, I've never been able to get this picture out of my mind:

PS.  By the way, the Blue Moon pirates are awesome.

haven't taken pics yet, but will.  (I'm no Lead   League painter, just so-so, and try to make up for it by building nice terrain)

I have a Steamship and a gunboat near finished that are pretty darned good, but need some Dhows and Xebecs.

Dan, GFI has nice pirates too.  With Blue Moon and Thouroughbred, you have all the selection you would need for 15mm.

Cannibals in 15mm?  Have you figured out what to use?

(And, don't forget the nautilus cannibals, or Swiss Family robinson, or Robinson Crusoe)  Pirates and cannibals go hand in hand!!!!

CC,
We did a game last year in 28mm which was a multiplayer multifaction game.  Each player had his won command of 12-15 figures.  We used modified Legends of the high seas.  Each player got to activate on a card draw, so the order was unknown and different each "turn".  I set it on the coast of Africa.  There was a small town with a dock surrounded by an incomplete wall and dense forrest/jungle beyond.  The other end of the table held the african village.

As I recall the factions included, a Marine contingent, the town militia, both of which started in the European colony town, the pirate crew of a ship in the town pretending to be a legit ship crew, a pirate crew just pulling up to the dock, a group of Pygamies hiding in the forest outside of town, a group of africans, seeking to destroy the arab slavers, a group of arab slavers, A religious fanatic group out to purge the world of unbelievers, along with the usual dangerous fauna, quicksand, lions, snakes, etc.

I think the players all had fun.  But once again no one brought a camera.

Leadfool,

Awesome.  Sounds intriguing.  Please, please share more!

I just love this scene:

Now, imagine THAT, but on Kong's Skull Island:

What do you think of that idea?

Played in a 28mm convention game involving pirates and cannibals maybe three years ago.  There were islands formed from green geo-hex, a few palm trees, and maybe a village.  Both pirates and government types were trying to find some treasure on the islands.  Most of the ships were scratchbuilt from Gary Chalk designs.  When the European types landed on the islands they stirred up a lot of cannibals, which were Old Glory figures.  The cannibals also travelled between the islands on the Old Glory canoes.  The paint job on the cannibal figures and their grass skirts was great, but what really set them apart was that the hair was painted as if the hair were caked in mud.  That was really cool and different.  The game was fun too.

That sounds like it was so much fun.

Can't wait to try something similar but, in my case, it will probably be 15mm instead of 28mm.

Did those 28mm Cannibals with grass skirts look anything like these Maori savages?

Or were they more like these other ones, seen here attacking the Nautilus?

Thanks.

Dan
PS.  Believe it or not, I want to make some ancient ruins like these (that the Pirates plan to plunder while, at the same time, fend off the primitive cannibals):

I may need to add a cool wall like this, to keep the big critters out of where the cannibals live:

The pirates will have to either defeat the cannibals this side of the wall, or the beasties on the other side of the wall.
