Painting interiors for and Old West saloon/hotel
« on: April 18, 2010, 10:29:12 AM »
Like the thread title says ....

I'm reworking a saloon/hotel building I made years ago. Suggestions (photos?) of what works well for painting rooms for such a building would be appreciated. in particular for the main bar room and for the upstairs bedrooms and corridor.

Well, you could use wallpaper and avoid much of painting altogether. Just print out some paper with a suitable pattern, cut in to narrow strips and glue to the walls. Then stain a bit with washes of water colour / acrylics. Should look pretty good, I do this with my WWII houses.

Depends really on what kind of interior surfaces you got. The above works for smooth surfaces. If you got panelling or even log walls, go with painted or wood colour surfaces. Show us what it looks like, and you will have more useful suggestions?

The same with the floors, if it has wood grain, paint it wood colour or paint colour. Don't forget carpets! (again print out some carpet patters).

you can even print and some wooden floors, too!
a good source is to try the "free printables" (a good search at google/yahoo etc will bring good results) aimed to dollhouses.
You can find printables for wallpapers, carpets, floors or even cigarboxes and whiskey labels!

Here's a good site for some printable interior elements.
http://www.printmini.com/printables/pp.shtml

One thing I did for mine was to search the web for paintings and print them out for wall art. My saloon had some very nice classical nudes but when I remembered my kids were going to be playing using thet saloon I ended up with Dogs Playing Poker and Dos Playing Pool.  :)

Here's an excellent link for dozens of free wallpaper patterns, plain or fancy, from about 1750 on up.
