I always loved the production value of GW stuff, so I might nevertheless pick up a copy - if only to enjoy the pictures from time to time.

Absolutely, and copied by the GW offshoots of FOW and Black Powder.  :-* 8) :o ;D

I have to say after reading about it here and over on WAB forum, I'm feeling very underwhelmed now. I'd expected them to do a proper job, increasing the width of units to get rank bonuses (so they actually look right), more lists in the rulebook ala WAB1.5, but then again I guess I shouldn't set myself up to be disappointed.

Don't be to quick, there are quite a few changes in the rules that needed some fixing and units will change to wider.Play some games and decide if your underwhelmed. :)

I would agree with Christopher on that and play a few games first.

The chaps playing (looking after) my samurai game at Salute played the new rules (if a bit quick off the mark) and thought they ran very well and also the new additions/changes (which there are most certainly more than one or two) helped the game an awful lot.

If you don't want to buy it yet then don't, but play some games first and then judge  :)

All my notes are on scraps of paper that'll take a while to get sorted (literaly, some are just a few words expressing an idea) but I'll hopefully get in contact within the next motnh or two and see what happens.

cheers

p.s. Black Powder is looking tempting for some samurai jiggery pokery  :D

If you mean Black Powder I don't own a copy as I'm up to my neck in systems and so not much help there, but if you mean notes for WAB then I'd be more then happy to read them and hopefully offer a decent opinion. :D

They are currently working on a pike and shotte version, that might be better.

I've been reading A LOT about WAB 2 on the WAB Forum,TMP, and the WAB yahoo group. So far it sounds like the changes are definitely for the better and the rules have been tidyed up well.
As long as the supplements stay good(I know they say the will but GW has changed gears mid stream before) I think I will be happy with the new WAB.
I'm a bit disappointed on the very sloppy editing I have been hearing about. As in rule explainations being countered by tables later added to the book.Everyone keeps saying FW will probably put out a official errata.Hopefully it won't take as long to get out as the book did.
As far as new supplements go I'd like to see some new ones but any army I have figures for is all ready covered in some way(even if it is AoA for my samurai)

£32 for a book not proofread is not sloppy, it's criminal.  Any other product bought like that would be returned for a refund...........
