Reaper Deep sea diver help

If you were doing this figure as if in a dive would you make the cable and air lines up in the air like the were floating or down on the sea bed dragging along behind?

Ya know, I was gonna research this myself, but this old thread saved me a bunch of time, but...Where does the hose attach? To the dome of the helmet, the "gorgett" base plate that rests on the diver's shoulders, or the top(collar amybe) of the suit?

As a person who works underwater quite a bit I have always been facinated by Hard Hat diving...never had a chance to do it but always wanted to. 

Luckily for you I work at a museum where we have a Mark V Scuba Helmet that we have rigged up so visitors can try it on...and so I was able to take a couple of pictures.

Also we have a wonderful US navy video that describes the techniques of dressing into one of these rigs...and man what a process!  I poked around on Youtube and found some [pieces of this video...tons of info here!

Just out of curiosity, how deep would one of those rigs work on the shallow end?
That is to say, what would be the minimum usual depth to use one of those rigs? Could it be somewhere where some skin divers in scuba would be in the same place at the same time?

No prob glad they are helpful to you.

Sure yeah...these would be used in anything from wading situations up to about 150 ft of depth...after that you need to start using gas mixes (reduced amounts of nitrogen) and I'm not sure when they started doing that...probably not until at least the 60's or 70's.  In the Navy these were often used in repair situations...working on the bottoms of ships...or on cribbing/pier work things like that...all fairly shallow water situations.

The thing that amazes me about these hard hat suits is how much they weight...the helmet Chest plate combo is about 65lbs...add 80lbs of lead on your waist...and at least 40lbs in the shoes and getting in the water must have been a nightmare!  once in the water the buoyancy of the suit probably made it much more comfortable...but its just crazy!
