Hard to know where to put figures for a Gothic Steampunk Victorian Horror Wild West Samurai game, but I figured since my crew features a serial killer and some zombie prostitutes, it might fit best here.

I recently finished my first Malifaux crew (though not in time for an LPL entry) - the Seamus boxed set (aka, Shameless Seamus and His Living Impaired Ladies of Negotiable Affection).  They were really satisfying to paint - it's fun to paint an entire army in a couple of weeks.  I'll be adding a Copycat Killer and a Convict Gunslinger once they get in to our FLGS.  I also have plans on an all-female Viktoria crew.

I made the bases from Magic Sculp (love that stuff for making terrain!).  My one issue with the models is that they were a bear to assemble - many of the joins were so small that I couldn't fit a pin in (here's hoping the superglue and epoxy joins hold!).  The handle on the folded umbrella also broke off in the package, so I had to replace it with a piece of bent brass wire.  Probably for the best.  With the exception of fiddly assembly (and the caution with which I'll have to treat them while playing), I really love the models.  Very characterful and unique.

Without further ado ...

Jim

Very nice. I do like the vivid style. I want to say cartooney but that might be taken as insulting when it's not meant that way. I would suggest adding more shadow to the eyes though, currently they're lost in the face and eyes add definition.

I know what you mean about the joins. I'm assembling a Bayou Gremlin group periodically and there are some very small joins on those. Ramos and his spiders seem easy now :)
So many projects..... so little time.......

Cartooney is a completely appropriate word, IMO.  Eyes, unfortunately, seem to be my bane.  Typically I leave them be and let them stay shaded.  On these minis, the sockets weren't as well defined as what I'm used to, so they got painted over some.  One day, after I work up some courage (and practice), I'll likely revisit almost all of the minis I've done before and re-do the eyes.  I agree that good eyes make a mini (and bad eyes can completely ruin one).

Thanks for the kind words,
Jim

Looks good and the style works well for these figures.

Nice work. I'm tempted by Malifaux, but can't justify the cost of the minis.

I agree with Dewbakuk, need a little defintition around the eyes, and they'll be there. I like the vibrancy of them, something you won't see often with this line of miniatures.  :)

Love the bright paint scheme - nice work.  :D

I'm tempted by Malifaux, but can't justify the cost of the minis.

That's what I originally thought, and it's true: mini for mini, these are more expensive than many on the market. However, when you consider that an entire "army" in Malifaux consists of between five and ten models, on average, the actual cost to field these in a game is far less than fielding entire armies of many other games...

Yes, but it's still less lead.
i.e. less painting time, which is where I make the most of my hobby.

But even if you consider skirmish level.

For flintloque, you need 5 to 10 models per side, you can get that, and more, for £12.

For Necromunda, same applies. £30.

Mailfaux, you are on about £40-£50. Even then, that's talking bare minimum.

It looks like an awesome set of rules, with some really nice models and it looks like a game with the same sort of community as Confrontation had, as an old Confrontation player, that sounds really attractive! But at the moment, with little income available to spend on miniatures, I am in no situation to start thinking about buying anything for this range. I am very tempted by the Bayoux goblins though.  :)

There is an Edvard Munch-ness to the ladies I really like. Cartoon-eery. Very nicely done.

... a Gothic Steampunk Victorian Horror Wild West Samurai game....

I've seen some obscure gaming periods in my time, but this takes the biscuit!

Even worse than my favourite "Kung Fu Cowboys in Space"  lol

I love your painting style. Very bold shading and vivid colours. Maybe not ultra-realistic, but perfect for this sort of genre.

More please  ;D

Lovely.  Most miniature games have standout sets (Necromunda Eschers for example) but Malifaux seems to have set after set after set of cool little "units".

I dont own the Malifaux rules but I picked up the Lady Justice box just for the Death Marshal figures a few months ago.

Seamus and co are also high on my list, although it will be hard to top your lovely treatment of the figures  :-*

More please :)
