Who is this guy?
« on: 09 May 2010, 11:34:26 AM »
Spent yesterday painting him. A Prof-style figure-in-a-day type thing. Surprisingly satisfying and enjoyable, to do it that way (though all the other stuff on the painting desk looked on in disgust as he jumped ahead of them).

Can anybody guess what he's meant to be?

*hits buzzer* Who is Gunga Din?!

"Tho' I've belted you and flayed you, By the livin' Gawd that made you, You're a better man than I am, Gunga Din!"

Lovely yellows on them harem trousers.

He's a one-of-a-kind, I'm afraid. But quite easy to make.

Body is from a Redoubt ACW Zouave officer: AC 116 WESTERN THEATRE ZOUAVE FIRING COMMAND
Head is taken from a Sikh from the Foundry Darkest Africa range.

The Redoubt figures have a separate head choice thing going on which makes things even easier, as you only have to perform an amputation on the Sikh. Then there was the business of filing off some unwanted Zouavey lacey nonsense from the jacket.

Have you considered suggesting some Sikh or VSF style heads to Redoubt ?

Might be worth a try - send them a picture of what you've done.

Don't know who he is meant to be, but he looks bloody great!  :)

Could use him in my India games, that's for sure.

Really nice work Plynkes :-* The yellow trousers are especially good 8)

Now… this is off topic but do the latest Sikh and Indian WWI figures from Gripping Beast come with separated heads? If so they could be useful for conversion

Could he be an officer for Johnston's Jat Sikh contingent in the Nyasaland Protectorate, 1890s?

Superb painting on the black and yellow. One of my favourite colour combinations. The yellow is nice and clean without being unduly vibrant.

Very inspirational. I think I'll paint my second squad of DOAG Askaris this week.
