Empress Miniatures 9lb gun and crew ~ painted
« on: May 21, 2010, 09:56:10 AM »
I've painted the first of the two 9lb guns and crew I bought at Salute. The second will have to wait, I'm painting Zulus again at the moment.

The model is easy to assemble, having learnt from my mistakes on the 7lb version, while the carriage is larger, with wheels of a greater diameter. The four crew are nicely posed and sculpted, my only painting difficulty was with the crouching figure, a bit fidly for my old eyes, so a few retouches were necessary.

Nice job!  The Empress stuff if very cool.

I also find crouching minis to be a pain in the arse... especially if you base them before painting.  Chalk up another "lesson learned" for me.

Very nice David, I like the sergeant in particular.

What was the difficulty arising from assembling the 7 pounders?

Thank you for the photos.

Helen

No instruction sheet to help idiots like me; one 'bit' I never used, could n't see what it was meant to be; no deep fittings for fiddly small parts when assembling seats. Nothing too serious, just irritating to someone like me with 10 thumbs!

Thanks, Mike. The carriage is Foundry Stone shade, dry brushed with the Stone mid shade. I have largely given up three shades, except for the faces, as it saves time for purely gaming projects like the Zulu War. {I have tried, probably with little success, to do nice bases which is what you see mainly from 3 feet away when they're on the table.}

I had this problem with the 7lb as well but there are some very good photos on the empress web site that were good for reference.
