After a lot of thought im very pleased to say 38 fest is going ahead in Dumfries on 22nd/23rd Jan 2011. The reason for the change of date and venue is very simply, we are joining forces with the Albanich, which I was already organising and running the two shows side by side . This means a lot of the basic costs of the event are already covered allowing us to develop a programme that will be a lot more than just a one day show.

So far I can confirm the following

22nd will be a the show day
For those who came to Albanich last year, you will know there is a fair ammount of space, in addition if as we hope demand is high there is an additional conference hall, and if that is not enough we can hire up to 6 badminton courts from the neighbouring community centre- space will not be a problem

So if you have got a game bring it along.

Secondly you will notice while we are retaining 38 Fest as the title, the show will aim to include both historical and fiction games for the period 1914-39. So if inter war is your thing , but as yet the fascination of 1938 hasn't caught you there is plenty of scope for WW1, Spanish Civil War, Back of Beyond or pulp to name but a few.

We realise for some folk Dumfries is going to be a fair way to travel, so we wanted to extend the programme make it more of a real festival. So first up we have booked our local arts cinema for the Saturday night and will be showing Richard III possibly with a supporting feature.

The Sunday will give as many as want the chance to play in a really big game and write a piece of 1938 history, we are still thinking about scenarios but the return of Prince Albert has been suggested and that might well be a cracking one involving pretty much every faction

Amongst our guests, a certain well known sculptor is hoping to attend as does Pete our artist on the upcoming Anglican League book.We are hoping to encourage more creative types along for the weekend to swap ideas and generate inspiration

It also looks like there will be a freebie 38 figure as well for those attending

The aim is now to get bookings confirmed for games.

£10 big ticket
We will shortly be opening ticket sales for the event. We are doing this as way to guage the size of facilities we need particularly for the Sunday event. We hope to get the ticket price to be about £10 for the weekend, for that you will get admission to both 38 fest and Albanich on the Saturday, the film on Saturday night and the Sunday big game. These tickets will also be limited due to the cinema seating.

We will also shortly be doing a guide to local places to stay

So thats the news for the mo, any ideas and your support for this event greatly appreciated
Cheers
Simon

Dumfries in January should give the required bleak, desolate and war ravaged environment for the venue.  ;)

Sound great, but just looked where dumfiries is on the map. Long way from Brum. 5 1/2 hours on a coach, but only £35 return with national express. I might consider it, but if there was an event closer, say in the midlands? that would be nice.
Theres more 28mm Superhero Madness at my blog, http://fourcoloursupers.blogspot.com/

Sounds like fun. Good call to broaden the theme.

I'd love to participate and contribute, Hastings, but chances are very slim I'll be able to make it.

I have, as I think you know several factions I'd like to take out for a spin among the VBCW luminaries.

The Totleigh-in-the-Wold Volunteer Grenadiers (independent militia)
Welsh Gypsies (anti-BUF)
Grenadier Guards (Royalists)
The Duke of Nutherland Kennel Club of Monimasket (independent)
The S:t Trinnian Catholic School for Girls Brigade (AL or anarchist)
The Damnation Army (AL)
The Sisters of Little Mercy (AL)
Spode's Black Shorts (BUF)
The Monimasket Constabulary (Government)
A landing party of destroyer HMS Reckless, (Royalist or Socialist)
Merchant sailors (independent militia)
Foxhunt Guides (independent militia)
The board, orderlies and inmates of the St. Sybil's of Monimaskit Home for the Mentally Unsound (...um...)
Colonial soldiers of every skin colour imaginable

It would be great to see you if by any chance you can make it. Glasgow or Newcastle are the nearest airports, then its either a 2 hour train journey or hire car.
Would be superb to see some of those units enter the fray :)
