Perry Bashi-Bazouks

Gradually finishing more of these splendid figures.  Some for myself, based for the Chris Peers rules, and some for a fellow Bengali. (Member of 'The Bengal Club')

#1 Traditional 'waving a sword whilst the horse leaps over a rock.'  I've clustered a rock and some tall grass around the fore hooves in an effort to conceal the bit of lead supporting the figure.


#2 In which the rear hooves give a better example of concealing the 'hoof lead' with grass.  Here the grass is not some of that expensive model railway stuff, but bits clipped from a cheap/disposable paint brush.


#3 And a standard bearer.  I'm told that the flag actually says something about the 'reasonable pay rates' of the unit.  A fellow Bengali printed out the phrase he wanted, using 'something' so that it came out in the desired Arabic characters.  Then I painted  over them.  It sort of works.

Fantastic!  really a lot of character, and vibrant colors!

LOL!  I saw the thread caption, "Major weenie on Perry's Bashi Bazouks" and thought:  "how can a sculptor accidently have an exposed weenie on a figure?  That is weird!"

Very nice.  The bright reigns and tackle is what I love best.  (I've been doing a Hell of a lot of 15mm Ansar cav in 15mm lately, and using paint pens to do the raised detail leather, but in brown.   maybe I should get colorful?

How are you Marianas?  I am going out Dolphin fishing (25-30 miles out in the Gulf Stream), the FISH, NOT the MAMMAL  ;)tomorrow.  You spear up any good tasting fish lately?

Thats why you have to come over to the one true scale and leave those midget 15s behind    I think that my eyes would drop out of my head if I had to paint 15s.  Sadly, no fishing this weekend even though my spearfishing buddy is in from the island of Tinian and the water is good.  I will be busy photographing hundreds of small broken fragments of 18th and 19th century Chinese porcelain in every free moment I have between now and late July.

'Lobster Boy' (& fellow Bengali) is that you?  If you go to the club web site I think that there's a, very old, posting in the painting section on how to reproduce these very horse colors.

Splendid.  What game/period are they for?

They're from the Perry Sudan range, so 1882?

But I think that the costume would work for anything from the Greek War of Independence (1820's ish) to.... Dunno, didn't I see some color newreel footage of Morrocans dressed sort of like this when the Allies landed in W.W.II ?

Don't know if that really helps.

Absolutely! I'm trying to justify buying those excellent Perry Egyptian "Cuirassiers" though. I need to find a way to work them into the mix.

Major Weenie, they are GORGEOUS ! 

The flag is quite wonderful, and I'm the guy, I will admit, who thinks he figured out how to write "Dirty Deeds Done Inexpensively" in Arabic. 

Perfect, imo. 

Painting over the printed flag was a brilliant stroke.
