Russians Complete!
« on: June 07, 2010, 08:57:38 PM »
I finished up the last of the 28mm WW2 Russians that I have today.

It's a nice feeling to know that SOMETHING is "all done".... Oh, I'd like to pick up a few more tanks at some point - but for now I'm good.

Now, on to those GERMANS!!

More pics over on my blog:

Nice looking army
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Nice work Tim, but I'm quite sure you were meant to say Soviets!

I use Savage Worlds for pretty much all my skirmish gaming. There's probably better (more detailed) systems out there... but I just can't be bothered to remember more than one set of rules!

There's a few AARs involving the Russians Here:

Sure, you can use them for role-playing... I think the guys that wrote them are miniatures enthusiasts so it's very simple and based around using miniature to play out the action.

give me a link to them?

Here's the Publishers download page:

http://www.peginc.com/downloads.html

There you will find the Test Drive PDF - which is the basics of character generation and the basic rules.

You will also, however find Savage Worlds: Showdown PDF which is a straight up force-on-force miniatures skirmish game - a (very slightly) streamlined version of the regular rules with a point system for making theoretically "even" forces. I ignore the points system - as with most, they are junk. I also run games blending aspects of the two systems/styles of play.

I see some Copplestone Bolsheviks in there. Pretty useful, aren't they?

Good job on that army. I bet it cost a pretty penny though. :)

Yes! (Well, one or two that I've used as Commissars)

Good job on that army.

Thanks!

....?

um. sure, I suppose...?

Not as much as a 40K army...

or an army someone had to pay someone else to paint...

or my friend Darrin's new TV...

or a new car...

or a used one for that matter....

I don't know. Relatively speaking I think of out hobby as pretty inexpensive and I think of myself as somewhat frugal. Some of those (the KVs and a good chunk of the infantry) I got in trade for some 15mm fallschirmjägers I knew I would never paint - most of which I had gotten in trade for a used bicycle I had originally paid $40 for! Some of it I picked up off ebay for half it's suggested value. A good chunk of the remainder I ordered direct from england since the pounds been in the tank - costing me half what the same figures would at my local Canadian game store (who order from a distributor in the States to get a product originally made in England?!)...

(Oh, don't get me wrong I do love the local game store and try to support them when I can and never complain to them about the prices... but when ANYTHING historical has to be "special ordered", takes 4-6 months, and costs twice as much... it's hard to say no to ordering direct from the company - and the guys that make the figures get a higher percentage and hopefully stay in business longer)

C'mon, how many gamers do you know with three to five times the value of that lot sitting unpainted in a closet collecting dust!? Heck, I have far more unpainted sitting in boxes patiently awaiting the love of my brush...!?

All the tanks are from Army Group North Miniatures and the BA-64 (Armoured Car) is from Bolt Action Miniatures/Warlord Games.

Tim great looking force. Your blog is cool too. Just one question: where is the T34? Just joking, keep up the great work and keep us posted with your Germans.
