Superheroes in AE-WWII
« on: 11 June 2010, 08:50:56 PM »
Darkson has released trial rules for using superheroes in AE-WWII. Drawing inspiration from Captain America and the Invaders, the Spider, the Phantom, the Creature Commandos and more, now you can bring pulp heroes and villains to the battlefront in your AE-WWII games. Check it out:

(Disclosure: I was one of the playtesters on this. Also, a big pulp comic books fan.)

Have any of the old Invader comics been released in paperback at all?

Sounds intriguing! Adding superheroes ala Cap, Namor, the original android Human Torch, etc. is the whole reason to play Weird WWII if you ask me... ;)

You can get the 70s "Invaders" in paperback collections for about $20 a volume. (There are 2 volumes)  You can also get the 40s original "All Winners" which is what the Invaders were taken from in HB at a bit more but they are worth it.  Also look for the Young Allies which were comics with Bucky, Toro and the other teenage sidekicks of the time.

Glade to see the classic mystery men make there appearance in AEWWII.

Great stuff with art that is second to none,
Brian

Well I need to put together some rules for Cap and Bucky and the Red Skull.

Does anyone make minis that look like Hydra Agents?

Heroclix does a HYDRA agent with a Thompson so you could get away with those being in WWII.  Get them on eBay for cheap too.

I actually rather liked his work. Always felt more in fitting with the material than more modern artists of the time

This is almost enough to get me into AE-WW2... Do those miniatures fit with the "What The" Cap?

Bear in mind they're a little larger scale than most figs, though. Certainly closer to the 32mm side of the fence.

Fits perfectly. I'd start with an Airborne Officer, Hero type Brute, upgrade to Superhero: National Hero. Then pick up Secret Identity so I could add the Shield. (Though I could make a case for Perfect Weapon instead of National Hero, but your tastes may vary.)

Oh, the Invaders are some of my favorites ever!!  Now add them to AE WII!!  Almost as good as when somebody got chocolae in my peanut butter..

On a side note, for comic fans....Check out Marvel Digital comics.  The subscription is about 4-5 bucks a month, and it gives you access to TONS (plus lots of Invaders stuff) of online comics.  Plus, you don't have to have the guilt of having comic books lying around the house.

You're talking about the online versions correct? Not the iPhone or iPad versions?

There is about 25 classic Invaders, and right now they are featuring a 'cap and bucky' comic strip compendium
