Handschar.... jus-like-that
« on: 19 June 2010, 09:13:24 AM »
This was my entry for the Guilds most recent group build, http://www.guildwargamers.com/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=238
sponsored by the nice folk at battlefield miniatures - http://www.battlefieldminiatures.co.uk/

I've loved these figures since they were released - (hot on the heels of Lepre's book) more than a few years ago now...
i never seemed to get round to doing them... so this build was the excuse to get started!  :D

one infantry company, the support company and part of the HQ company got finished in time...  8)

The infantry...

Insignia; green waffenfarbe for mountain troops, croation armshield below
sleeve eagle on left arm and SS mountain badge on right sleeve! (thank
goodness they were never issued a cuff title... )  o_o

various close-ups of the boys...

and the Panzershreck team from the HQ company...

The support company...

the MMG teams...

I think this is my favourite picture,
the repositioning of the No.2's head works just right as he catches a quick glance over his shoulder at the enemy...
and the mortar...

Real size....
you forget how small these things really are....

only two more companies to go.... oh and the rest of the HQ unit and some gun crews.... oh lordy!!!! - but i will finish them!!!!!  ;)

cheers,

rob 8)

Had these pictures saved to the 'inspiration' file for a week or so now - bloody lovely mate!

What are you basing the 'schrek and HMG teams on? I assume 1p coins for the single figures? If so the team bases look to be the same depth (which is what I've been after for a while).

Ahh, the Handschar. A group so wickedly vile and disgustingly evil that the rest of the SS considered them to be "excessive." I must admit (no criticism of you at all, my friend) that I have never understood the attraction.

That said, beautifully painted and well executed. Well done:)

I would guess because they are SS in Fez… I too find this unit to be a very touchy subject to said the least…

From a strictly "wargames related" point of view they are really nicely painted.
A CANADIAN local hobby store with a small selection of historical wargames miniatures (mainly from Warlords). They also have a great selection of paint and hobby accessories from Vallejo, Army painter, AK Interactive, Green Stuff World and more.; https://tistaminis.com/

Agreed, Calimero. Can't say enough about how nicely done these are, regardless of my own views of them. Well done!

Isn't it an odd rule of historical wargaming in general, and science fiction, and well... Idunno, anything military, that the bad guys always seem to have the nicest uniforms? Always seems to be the case!

beautiful work!

I personally fail to see the very big difference between evil and very evil as long as the result are dead and tortured people...
from a more detached point of view however one has to account for the general ethnic and guerilla context in that particular theatre, which the guys with the two runes apparently did intend to exploit..
in which case the question arises:
who is more evil, the beast or the beast master?
(which statement is not meant as an excuse for atrocities, but merely as an attempt at a more differentiated view)

Killing anyone for whatever reason and by whatever method can only possibly be described, at best, as a 'necessary evil' - depending on your own moral and ethical view, which of course is subjective.

Thanks for pulling the thread back from the brink though guys and can future posters concentrate on the 'art' and not the 'subject' please.  :)

Of course they do! How else do you think they get young men to sign the dotted line?  lol
If I reamber correctly I believe that the Nazi's actually hired fashion designers to come up with there uniforms.

Aside from that I really like what you have done with these guys, what are your planes for them?
