Suggestions?

I've had the same thoughts as you for a while. Finding decent terrain for decent money, so to speak. Most of the terrain is battle damaged, or too gothic or fantasy looking. I think there is a niche to be filled here people! I contacted a small manufacturer and explained this to him. He said he would think about it, and never got in touch again...

I realize that I will have to spend either time or money to get  good terrain. Personally, I would rather spend some money on buildings so I can spend more time on painting miniatures.

A big problem for me is shipping. As I'm not living in the US or UK, shipping is usually as much as the buildings themselves, and that's over my budget. I've looked at Amera, which have some cheap terrain. Some of their stuff is not battle damaged, and could be used in modern scenarious.

As of this weekend, I've begun building some modern buildings myself. I'm using old computer harddrive boxes to save some time on the wall construction. The idea is to make buildings with stackable floors, fitted on top of a set of different ground floors. This way I can change the scenario to have one story buildings, to two or three story buildings. This project will of course take some time, so I'm still interested in a pre-fabricated solution.

Like those foamboard buildings, very nice, just texture them up and paint and your good to go.

If you look on my thread re: gameboard you might find what I did of use to tie the buildings together.

So shortly after checking this topic, I get an email from a list I belong to where, in a completely unrelated topic, someone posts this:

http://www.red-dragon-terrain.com/28mm-city.html

They look a little rough, but not too bad overall, and he seems to be looking to expand his offerings in the future. The castings seem a bit off... I wonder if the red brick was from an earlier production run? The newer building towards the bottom seems to be better. Might need to make some inquiries.

Leon_mallett uses oscale train stuff from plasticville USA- very good value for money. It's available both sides of the pond too.
He's an example. PM him to find out where he gest his stuff or check out his blog (Pulp Citizen) and use the menu to find terrain.

Theres more 28mm Superhero Madness at my blog, http://fourcoloursupers.blogspot.com/
And for Ultra-modern Wargaming check out Hotel Zugando at http://ultramoderngaming.blogspot.co.uk/

Found some more stuff:

http://www.fantascene.net/cart/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=2

The Old Crow Model stuff is quite similar to what's on the first link. It looks both usable and affordable.

That muscle man is Six Feet Under, a Hero interred in Hellrock Prison in the deepest pits of the Necroplane, who now fights on behalf of the Blood Watch in Pulp City.  ;)

A Pulp City mini, in other words.

Good ground-level shot, with the Flying Tricycle buildings in the distance -

Ground level at the gas station (roof was removed here) -

This one shows off the Flying Tricycle buildings I bought. Scale on these are just about perfect, and very playable. I wish these guys were still around, I love these things -

Too bad you didn't keep up with that work, I think it is really inspiring!

Thank you.... technically it's not finished, and I had other buildings planned out that never got built yet, so there's always a change it will happen. I just know me well enough that I enjoy the initial builds a lot more than the detailing aspect of it, so I'm not counting on seeing them get a whole lot further. I'm much more likely to have more buildings before I have any finished buildings.

If there was a way to crank them out really quickly to get a decent finish on them I probably would. Right now I'm looking forward to a break from from work later in the year for a friend and I to work on a larger project (we've been talking Mall) and I'm sure i'll be on here looking for advice and inspiration.

They scale very well with 28mm. They come pre-coloured plastic, ready to use, but they are well textured so will paint up well (but leonmallett hasn't painted his yet. he's a bit slow  :D).

don't bother with the pre-assembled stuff- the cost is silly, buy the kit models, becasue you get the same model, and they are a piece of cake to assemble. a monkey could do it in a couple of minutes.

some of the kits are a 'small'. the cathedral is really a small church, but it still scales up well. The town hall also looks a bit on the pokey side, but I havn't seen it. Check out the Pulp Citizen blog or my blog for some more pictures. Pulp Citizen has other stuff gathered from far and wide, inluding apartment buildings, street furnature and cargo containers, along with details of where to find them. it's also a great read, packed with useful info. Use teh scenery link on teh right hand side of teh page to skip to the relivant posts.
