Polishing a turd
« on: July 06, 2010, 02:05:57 PM »
Well I could only be bothered to give it a light rub actually

Old Glory Imperial Chinese - I still have another 29 of these in the pile and I think it is going to be hard to muster the enthusiasm for them.

I think I have about 60 - 90 of them that I've never generated enthusiasm for......

That one looks great, though I suspect effort was needed for that result.
So many projects..... so little time.......

While I'm sure there is a point to all this, it escapes me completely!?!

Old Glory figure quality can be very hit or miss. Some stuff in one line might be really good and other stuff in the same line is just awful. I was painting some of their Samurai stuff. The Samurai wer pretty good. The monks were terrible.

Nice paintjob Svenn!
But why do you buy Old Glory stuff? Haven't you learnt your lessons yet? Or is did you actually think that this range was an exception to the "Oh f**k, its a melted piece of turd!"?

The obvious question Svenn is why buy them in the first place?  ???

One I have asked myself so many times ::)

The plan was to have some different poses amongst the couple of hundred I already have painted (mainly Foundry) and the better ones must have been near the top when I quickly looked at the bag.

The best ones are the ones with the heads facing the wrong way where they have done head (or should that be skull) swaps lol

Never posted in this section before but the title grabbed my attention............. I thought it was going to be a tutorial!!!  :D

Anyhow, only experience of Old Glory is a few of their cowboy range( which were OK) but have heard mixed reports of their other ranges. I love the paintwork on this mini so maybe you can polish a turd...

After a couple of packs of miscast, mutant, weirdly posed OG figures from two different ranges, I vowed to never buy any more.

Then looking at some of Driscoles' Pathans a few weeks back, I really liked some of those figures - and they were Old Glory!  ::)

Inconsistency is so annoying.

But actually Svennn, I think your Chinaman looks good. Wouldn't have guessed it was an OG figure unless you'd pointed it out.

I bought mine because I didn't know any better. It was part of a large purchase of Chinese and Ghurkas. Since then I've bought one pack of Old Glory figures which I sold at BLAM a couple of years ago which were the best I've seen and I still only felt they were 'okay'. Never again.

If you don't want them we are always happy to accept figures for the club, to be fair some of our 11 year olds are hopeless at painting anyway and it can be a shame to waste nice figures on their poor painting skills.

My painting is generally rubbish now (my eyesight just isn't up to it anymore) so I couldn't even dream of reaching your standard of polish.

As polished turds go that's very fine work indeed!

When finances improve I'll have to send some turds your way for a polish  ;).

Yes, that's exceptional work considering the mini in question. One shouldn't be too hard on OG, I understand their are quite popular amongst the angling community and those people that cast their own lead shot.

As has been said if you pick your ranges there are some nice figures in there . At one time they were value for money but that has gradually changed to the point that if you discard the iffy sculpts out of a packet you're probably paying as much as if you had bought other manufacturers figures ( in the uk)
