Mars, Martians and all that...
« on: July 11, 2010, 10:28:43 PM »
Hullo!
I'm fairly new to the forum, I joined because I was looking for something to respark my interest in gaming. I've found it, it's VSF. Nobody told me about this. I've read League of Extraordinary Gentlemen but no-one said I could play it! Ace! I'm excited, I want to buy and paint again!

I'd like to do a Mars skirmish to begin with. I've seen Martians by Ironclad, love them. Tin man has some top stuff and I really like the Tharks from Bronze Age. Am I missing anything? Are there other designers and ranges I need to know about please?

Has anyone in Britain or Europe ordered from Tin man or Bronze age? The Tin man site looks a bit bare to me, don't wanna lose the few pennies I have to spend on lead per month.

In short I'm enthused, feed me info and eye candy! Thanks.

This may be useful:

There's 3 other VSF showcases there too.

I did some converting for my Martians. I used Foundry Aztecs for my Red Martians and made my Tharks out of Games Workshop Kroot.

You might want to give the Parroom Station stuff a look. They also do a nice set of rules called Valour, Flesh, and Steel.

This might help. http://www.forum.oldspaceways.com//index.php?/topic/33-figure-comparison/

Rattrap has a game Fantastic Worlds, which uses very few minis and has VSF planetary romance in mind. http://rattrapproductions.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=3&zenid=pui1u42g0g729gtdta26t57v14

I'm thinking 25mm. Thanks for the links everyone, I'll look into it all.

What he said! If found in a discount bin, it would be almost legendary 'do with what you have', but so good, I'm considering cracking a box without such a find. Store partner's discount helps...  :D

Aztecs do yeoman service, as well.

As long as the topic is all things Martian, I have to aside that the flying craft are quite impressive. The airboat is lovely, of course, but I've never seen a better use of a Stinger! I shall have to plan another expedition to the pile in the garage, for I fear that, assuming my memory is correct and I own one, it shall not be so simple as to pop down to the basement. Now, if it turns out to be in the storage shed... *horrors*

I don't believe I've seen either in the Aeroneffs, etc. sticky; please consider adding them there!

If you do a search of the LAF (using the search box at the top left of the page under your user info) for "martians" you should hit on a load of old threads with pics and other info on the subject. There has been quite a bit discussed before, including manufacturers, conversions etc, so hopefully you will find what you're after  :)

Just a heads up, but the Tinman range is on sale at the moment, 30-50% off.

I didn´t order myself, but got help from a pal over the pond. The figures are really good scuplted an cast and paint up nicely. They go well in size with all 28mm brands of renown.

It´s a miniature from Tinman I got from an American in exchange for some painting. His haircolour is artistic license by me. I already have so many dark haired figures and my wife likes the Irish/Shottish orangeheads.

He didn´t come alone:

The Bronze Age figures are great, from my point of view.  Don't know how much of a hassle or expense it is to ship to England, but the Bronze Age owner-sculptor is a great guy.  I've been very happy with the service whenever I ordered from him.  There is a Bronze Age Minis yahoo group with more pictures in the gallery and regular communication from the owner-sculptor re upcoming products.

Looks like that Tinman could use some brown static grass for pubic hair.
Sailors have more fun!

Yeah, both clothed and unclothed. It's hardly worth making an order now....  :-[
