At The Mountains of Madness, the Movie!
« on: July 29, 2010, 05:46:12 PM »
This has been rumoured for ages, but it looks like the wheels are finally in motion:

Not keen on the 3D, but at least it's getting made.  Assuming everything goes according to schedule, that'd probably put release in late 2012.

Hey Mike, if you get a chance, could you move this thread to the general CoC board?  I meant to post it there rather than here.

As much as I'd like to get excited (again) over this, I've heard this spiel on and off again for far too long to get my hopes up. It seems that AtMoM is always going to be Del Toro's "next gig," but it never materializes - something else always comes up. I find it hard to even remain optimistic about this ever seeing the light of day.  :(

Personally, I would have preffered Hellboy III.

I'm not gonna hold my breath for this to be anything near to the original. If it were coming from the HLPHS, then yes, I would expect a good, faithful rendition of the story. The Call of Cthulhu produced by the HLPHS was excellent. Anything out of Hollyweird proper..not so much. I've seen too many of the "adaptations" that should have been sent to file 13 rather than be released.

I hope this will be pure gold...not so sure about 3D...could cheapen the whole feel of the thing. Still, two HUGE names involved can't be all bad. Although...a giant, blind killer penguin would look pretty bad-ass in three dimensions!!! ;)

OMFG OMFG OMFG!
As I posted in the CoC thread, I think attaching these 2 big names should help to keep the meddling of the Hollywood execs to a minimum and hopefully allow GdT to bring this awesome story to the big screen faithfully.  Can't wait...

I'll take any big budget adaptation at this point.  I need more Lovecraft movies. ;D

I read a scene from the screenplay draft many years ago.  It regarded a derilict ghost ship being discovered in the antartic waters with a lone half-crazed survivor onboard who nearly kills his rescuers with a fire axe.

I think this was actually the opening scene or the movie screenplay and his retelling or flash back was the actual story.
