Otherworld Goblins (and others, new pic 8 Aug)

First 8 of a commission for 12 that I've finished.  Loved every minute so far, these are fantastic miniatures.

I think my favorites are the hooded one with the spear and the helmed one with the axe and shield.

I prefer orcs who don't look like gamorrean guards... then again, I recognize the quality of the miniatures and on that account I think you're damn right Welf. It's all a matter of what meaning you put in "best".

My problem with the goblins is that they've got the look of scared, inbred halflings on the OW site. The paint scheme of Killshot's goblins has negated that and they look bloody menacing!

Sculpting wise, wonderful models from otherworld, but I hate some of their concepts. The Ogres look really, really stupid. I hate the pig nosed orcs too. They look like Alf.
Wonderful paintjob on these goblins though, I quite like the Kobolds in their range.

Oh and I truly hate how much they think they can charge for generic fantasy figs.

They have new ogres by Pickford which IMO are much better.

Agree on the prices. The gnoll or bugbear are nice, but at £11 for two I'm dissuaded.

Okay, I know the concept of pig-faced orcs is a bit special (it's the right one of course), but it's part of old-school (A)D&D.

Regarding prices I think we have to consider the costs in making these niche product. Richard has given the numbers on his Forum for a single 28mm miniature:

As far as production costs go, lets look at an average 28mm miniature, say a Lich, which will be sold individually for £4.00. This is for an initial production run of 100 castings. These costs are approximated.

Sculpting fees - £250
(Shared) Master moulding fees - £10
Master casting fees - £80
Master casting metal costs - £15
Production moulding fees - £60
Production casting fees - £40
Production casting metal costs - £50
Transport costs - £15
Packaging materials - £50
Painting fees - £30

Total - £600

So, the costs for getting a single 28mm miniature into my webstore amount to £600, and I need to sell 150 of them just to break even, and that doesn't even take into account other costs like rent, rates, heat & light, phone, web costs, Paypal & banking fees, etc.!

Anybody complaining about Otherworld's pricing policy should consider this. They only produce a small number of miniatures per sculpt, they employ the best sculptors and the best casters. Quality especially when coming in low numbers has its price.

And don't forget, once or twice a year Otherworld offer their miniatures on a discount. And I'd guess that the boxed monster sets they will put out together with Goblinoid Games will also offer some bargain.

I wasn't going to bother with these as my goblin collection is already too big with several styles but these and the new command squad may have tipped me. I love the muted green but perhaps a DnD orangey brown is right.

My Otherworld collection is growing I now have the hobgoblins, bugbears, gnolls, kobolds and various dungeon nasties. I don't think they are expensive at all, certainly not for the quality and he does run very good offers and can be generous with freebies though obviously one should not expect, just hope your lucky . The resent treasure pack freebie was very good.

Until I started collecting I didn't realise he was based just down the road from me, his new building is even closer (10 mins max) so Richard won't be delivering in person anymore I'll be stopping by to collect.
