Flying aircraft carrier USS Macon
« on: 21 August 2010, 03:58:17 PM »
Came across an old copy of National Geographic that has article on USS Macon

This is the untold story of one of the biggest Zeppelins ever built: the USS Macon. Originally built in the early 1930s by German engineers, the Macon carried five Sparrowhawk planes inside her hull that could be launched and retrieved during flight.

Nice link, thanks! Although I'm always a bit baffled at how those uppity colonials feel the need to market any historical documentary as "the untold story" - "Akron" and "Macon" usually feature in any book on airships that goes beyond Zeppelins...

BTW, it's rather amusing how that graphic on the linked website recalls the Crimson Skies boardgame cover art...

Its all about advertising.  If its some thing untold its got to be some thing I must read and or see.
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Seen that a while ago on the discovery channel I think.
It was the inspiration for my current build but with an extra bit of pulp added.
Opened an old thread about it here
