... but may get sidetracked by something shiny, so be warned...

Having read the discussion on how some people don't like the perfect circle of the CD base, I have been thinking about how best to turn this into an advantage.

So I'm going to try my hand at making a wee bitty Cthulhu inspired terrain piece.

Need to have a sort out of available materials and such, but will hopefully be able to put up some initial "Pile o' Crap" shots at the weekend.

(Real life, wife and general forgetful/laziness not withstanding.)

 :)

OK, so here's what I'm going to start with:

I warn you now, this may bear no resemblance to the finished product. In fact, I'm still not sure what I'm going to do with it all, I just thought the shapes were quite nice.

Either that or its a giant CD and golf tee.

Very intruiging JB.
Don't!

Progress is being made.  :)

Basic shapes cut and glued together:

Bit of texture added:

Creepy runes etched into the base, more texture and sealed with thin PVA:

And added a bowl for sacrificial offerings:

Have also looked out some spare bits for window dressing and cobbled together another idol so the li'l 'Thulhu can be swapped out. No photos of that just yet though.

And tonight's progress is...

Added some skully-chainy things from an old GW Dark Elf set to break up the flat rock:

And from the other side:

Close up of the new idol sitting in the recess. Its the demon Pazuzu!

With an intrepid investigator to show the scale of everything:

And with a little bit of basing:

Compared to some folks' builds (I'm looking at you, Bibbly!) its really quite boring, but I'm having pretty good fun doing it, and I like the simple functionality of it. Its also not taking very long, so I may do another one when its finished.

I like that  :) Where did you get the inspiration from?

Mine might not be boring (and I certainly don't think yours is) but there's a good chance it won't get finished either  lol

cheers

Inspiraration? Um, basically all the material I had lying around was odd-shaped offcuts that only went together one way when I tried. And I like things uncluttered anyway or you can't fit figures on them.

More luck than planning, really. Happy you all like it though.

Ok, so after a bit of grumbling on another thread, I managed to pick up a selection of funky looking beads:

From which I was able to cobble these together:

Here's a size comparison with Professor Bumbershoot again:

Little bit of gravel in the top for coals/incense;

And some quickly sculpted flames:

They fit quite nicely between the little altar and the rocky throne:

And once again the prof shows us how they scale up:

They're maybe a little tall, but I like the effect, and find it easier to fit the figures around the wide tops this way. I can always change them at a later date if I decide they really aren't working.

Blimey, apart from painting and strewing some static grass about, I think this one's finished!  :o

Those incense stands look great, How did you make sure they were straight, I think I would end up gluing them all zigzag.
