WW2 Softskins
« on: 27 August 2010, 08:26:43 PM »
I have noticed that ww2 softskins are a bit thin on the ground in 28mm scale. I have a particular softspot (no pun intended :D) for military trucks and vans etc as my Grandfather was an RSM in the RASC in WW2.

I have been selling Bedford QLs for a while, using old Dinky castings, and have now moved on to doing a Tilly.

Here are some shots of my work (the Tilly in progress). Do people think there is a market for non combat vehilces like these?

regards BB

Yup! I sure do, because they are useful for more than just military type wargames. They would also be handy for pulp games, etc.
Jane! Stop this crazy thing!

Yes I do, if they are reasonably priced. The problem I see with that is that most 28mm gamers play skirmish games and won't buy many softskins, so sans volume sales I suspect per unit price will be pretty hefty.

That Tilly is a lovely piece of work. I think with Bedford Q series you will be competeing with the Corgi 1/50 diecasts and older Dinky versions on ebay.

Now if you were to turn you attention post WW2 I'm in the market for some SWB Landrovers in a scale under 1/43 as well as a GAZ-69 or two.

Good luck with it all.

Thanks for your useful comments guys.

I use old Dinky castings for the QLs and detail them. This a Polish Armour Div one.

These are really good models. I for one really like softskins. :)

So what are you thinking of price-wise?

Personally I'd say that there is a market for softskins, but as there are so few of them about it is hard to judge this by sales. Many gamers would prefer armoured transport vehicles I'd guess too, but they are mostly already available.

I've been really impressed by the stuff you've posted on here, as are a few others judging by the comments, so hopefully this will convert into sales from the WW2 gamers out there.  :)

I offer one-off hand finished/converted pieces to the collector or wargamer. I have priced them so they are afordable, but there is some recognition of the work that goes into each piece. It does mean that you can commission a piece exactly the way you want it - unit, colour scheme, stowage etc.

As a guide figures are £5 ea, finished and based, and a QL is £40 finished with a tilt (hand made)

here is a link to my current brochure:

I think this works

and thanks for the kind comments Jim.

Heres a shot of some minis (a support wpn and crew is £35 as a finished item)
