Thanks this is a good start and give some good background info.

I am trying to write my own ruleset to wargame with my kids ( 7 and 11 ) Where each player controls a platoon ( maybe to be extended to a company ) all in 1/72 plastics and just a minor roll for tanks

So far i learned that a normal german infantry platoon consisted of a platoon HQ and 3 rifle squads Where every squad was 10 men including an NCO as the leader a gefreiter and 2 light machine gunners.

So I was wondereing if Luftwaffe F.D. had the same organisation.

Osprey.Man At Arms No. 229. Luftwaffe Field Divisions 1941-45.
I think that you find it very helpfull.
For the squad organisation the 10 man squad is o.k, just avoid the use of a second machine gun as only the panzer grenadiers and the SS used them at least up to 1943.
At the end of that year the Army took over and the indipendency of the Luftwaffe divisions practically ''died''.
Also don't forget that Luftwaffe units didn't get always first class equipment, MG 15-an aircraft machine gun converted for infantry use instead of MG 34, Pak 97/38-a French 7.5cm model 1897 gun modified with the carriage of the German 5cm Pak 38 and so on.
In a 10 man squad give to your squad leader an MP 40 and if you are using them in the eastern front give a captured PPsH 40/41 to your second in command, for the squad suport an MG 34 is enough and the rest rifles.
For your 4-5 man Command squad, give your officer only his pistol, your n.c.o with an MP 38/40, and your officer aid as the two runners will be armed with rifles.
Scoped rifles, grenade launchers, radios and other ... ''exotic'' equipment, well at least for the Luftwaffe men, forget them !  :(
But don't forget that you are playing a game and if you want you can use anything as long as you come up with a story :
'' Look Helmut what i found in the battlefield, a scoped Kar98 ! ''  :)

Hope that i helped._

Hi

I was thinking of giving all officers a pistol  the NCO a sub-machine and normal soldiers and corperals a rifle. As a  way to identify for the players who is who . Unless their would be a special reason not to
For miniatures i will be looking at standard germans and then paint them lufwaffe collor
I  realy like the idea of re-using old captured stuff that combined with limited combat experience will be a challenge But no exotic stuff  for them
But I want  every different unit i create for my games to have a different feel And this can come  the size of squads , the equipment  , leadership of the officers or morale of the men.
So after i finished LFD the kriegs marine is on my list  to gather with British parachute and glider regiments

Albert

PS On kriegs marine is there a suitable range for kriegs marine in 1/72 plastic
