Your opinion on Warlord's ECW Cuirassiers ?
« on: September 03, 2010, 08:12:50 PM »
The topic's subject says it all, really. I haven't seen any Warlord plastic cavalry in the flesh but I know some of you bespoke fellow posters have reservations about them, particularly their mounts. However, I'd be interested in using the cuirassier set to supplement my TAG TYW cavalry force as the Warlord figures are generally compatible with TAG size-wise.

So if anyone has them/has seen them, how good are they ? Are they an improvement over the previous Warlord cavalry releases ?

The riders themselves are metal for the Cuirassiers. Not sure on the how good the plastic horses are, but all the metal models I've got from Warlord are fantastic.

Haven't seen them in the flesh to be honest, but I agree most of the warlord ecw metals are pretty good, so if the cuirassiers are metal riders, they should be okay and as you say, compatible with TAG sizewise. But I think the horses are the same plastic horses as in the cavalry box, and I'm not a fan of those I'm afraid  :(

Indeed, horses are from the cavalrybox and thus in plastic, while the riders are in metal.
I've got them next to my other cuirassiers from renegade and whilst I wouldn't mix the horses in the same regiment, the men can easily be mixed.

Do the cuirassiers models come with the saddle attached or would it be possible to put them on other horses?
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it anymore and what is it seems weird and scary.

I have a box painted up, I'll try to put up a pic late today.  The riders are nice, like 99% of all the WL metals I have seen in the flesh.  The horses are the standard WL P&S horse: the saddle is molded on the body of the horse and the pistols are separate and must be glued on when conducting final assembly. The horses aren't bad really, from a wargaming perspective, though I understand people's reservations about them.  My biggest complaint would be that there is a fairly prominent seam along one side of the horses neck along the breastcollar which needs a little filler to hide.

As promised, some photos. Sorry for the quality.

Here's the lot of them about 95% done. It's that last 5% that makes the difference in the end of course.

Here is a closer shot of the seam I mentioned.
