Conversion Fodder at McDonalds
« on: September 04, 2010, 07:12:47 PM »
Took the kids to McDonalds today and got the following loot.

This Black Mantis walker has a separate leg assemble that pops off and the legs are poseable! I don't have the camera to take size comparison pics but a repainted 30mm heroclix comes to just below halfway up the leg.   The little saucer top could also be used in extensive conversions.  This one's a find boys.

BTW They also had a Batmobile that looks to be about 1/48 to a repainted Batman Clix.   I got one of those too!

This is my boomstick!

Thanks for the tip.

Manta looks awesome as start, though both it and the batmobile start off better for pulp.

Nothing that a bit of style-aging won't 'cure'.  :D

Fortunately, my sister attempts portion control via kids meals. Doesn't work, but I do pick up a ton of toys now and then.

The only time I take my daughter to MacD's is if I want a toy so I took her yesterday as I saw this toy mentioned on another forum. Was gutted when told by the spotty herbert at the till that the promotion is the wretched Last Air Bender (snigger snigger). I'm not bitter  ::).

These would work perfectly for a 20mm VSF project I've got in mind. I suppose I'll wait till they pop up on E-bay unless anyone over the pond wants to do me an enourmous favour............  ;)
Don't!

'the spotty herbert'; I believe that's new to me. I love when I pick up a bit of idiom, especially SO apropos...

It may well happen that Mickey D will flog these on your side of the pond in awhile; I'm fairly sure we saw Last Airbender a bit ago.

Still, if I score a large bunch, no problem in sharing!

Normally we're a ways behind other countries with the toys - i remember being a wee nipper being dissaponted at getting the same toy in the UK that I'd previously got on a day trip to Paris a month before...

I just picked one up and got it opened up - you can open those weird triangular screws if you get a flathead screwdriver that fits snugly along one of the edges.

So what are we all doing with ours?  I can't tell if I want to go VSF or Space-pulp with mine.

I had to specifically ask for it at mine.  I thought it weirded out the woman at the till.  Then she came by and asked why I wanted specifically that one toy (I am in my 30s, was sitting by myself eating my happy meal).  I tried to describe Victorian Science Fiction, and then she interrupted me with "Oh, you mean Steampunk".

. . .

So yeah, not sure if I want to go VSF or space-pulp with mine.  I might go a middle course - add rivets, but smaller and not so many, add a couple small exhaust pipes instead of a large smokestack, and paint it iron/silver instead of brass.  For weapons I'll probably add a searchlight and the more flangey-electro style VSF weapons that could easily be Tripid-Martian in style as well.

I initially bought 2, but I think I will get a couple more.  Legs are always handy.  And these don't need much work as they pop off the main body.  I'm going to do a couple of VSF-y dual person gun transport things, and save the others for more pulp-y applications.

We shall hate them all; until one of us is lucky.

For the heck of it, I tried on the drive home. If you think asking for this in your thirties is iffy, try when you're pushing sixty. Still, as I said, my sister is not the only one that gets a meal thinking it's 'portion control'. ;->=

Now, what am I going to do with Aquaman and his little bubble ball?

Rip him apart and use his head in a DOOM-esque spider-demon?
