Now I just have to find a bead-shop in the back end of bugger all and I'm sorted.

There's a good one in Edinburgh.
Last time we were there (12 months ago) they had beads (designed for earrings?) that actually look like ship's figurehead mermaids. Perfect for a 15mm ship or 25mm pirate sloop. Ready painted too.
Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

You live in the home country of the wargaming hobby, and you still complain  lol

Well quite.  :) Unfortunately there is this bit of the country that is (whisper it!) further north than Birmingham...!   :o

There's a good one in Edinburgh.

Which does indeed sound excellent. However it would still be a three hour drive for me to get there. As I said, I unfortunately live in the exact geographical midpoint of bugger and all. Seriously, when its an hours drive to the nearest motorway, you begin to notice the distinct lack of interesting shops in the area.

Not that I'm giving up, there are a couple of places I can try yet. Just don't expect me to stop complaining any time soon. I'm good at it.  :)

An hour to a motorway !

Luxury.

Even here in Scarborough we can find odd bits and pieces.

What sizes are we talking, and do you prefer plastic beads or would carved bone be ok ?

and even after that hours drive to the motorway you find there's an even bigger lack of interesting shops  :( assuming you head along the sixty six

And the goddess smiles on her favourite drunk idiot child again!  :D

Remembered Dunelm Mill has a haberdashery section, which turned out to have a limited selection of plastic beads so I bought a few packs and have had a bit of a play with them. Not altogether convinced of the result, but I think they'll do ok when they're painted.

Many thanks again chaps for the ideas and encouragement.  :)
