China Fight!
« on: September 12, 2010, 02:03:40 AM »
We recently played a game of firsts - a friend broke out his Brigade Games' Interwar Chinese, two sets of Special Naval Landing Force (Navy and Army) from Harbor Designs to playtest a set of small actions WWII rules by Howard Whitehouse. Beautifully painted figs and very cool destroyed city terrain! Unfortunately, only one of us actually used proper WWII tactics and the rest of the gang got shot to pieces and bled white. Tons of fun. I'll try to remember to bring a camera next time...

Sounds fascinating. Can you elaborate on the setting and the game objectives?

6 squads of Chinese troops (all infantry, 4 average morale, 2 veteran morale with superior hand to hand capabilities) vs 4 Japanese Special Naval Landing Force (two in Naval and two in tropical landing uniforms) and two HMGs in a demolished city as part of a meeting engagement. The Chinese pushed hard in the center and left; the Japanese set up well on the Chinese left and shot them up easily. The HMGs were sent too far forward and one was eliminated during the Chinese assault in the center. The Japanese on their left attacked and destroyed a Chinese unit and were repelling a Chinese conterattack.

The rules are card driven and still in the playtesting phase so I can't give too much away at this time.

I'll get some help posting pics - one shows the entire battlefield from the Japanese right/Chinese left. The cooler one shows a view of the city from the Japanese left - a unit of SNLF overlooks the Chinese counterattack in the center.

Unfortunately, they weren't my toys. I don't know if the rules will be finalized by then, too.
