Someone was asking about the possibility to do a unit of WK dwarfs that are all wearing sallet helmets. The big obstacle to using all the available poses is that the WKD-03 set (action poses) have heads that are cast on to the bodies and 3 of the 4 are wearing floppy hats.

So I went to task to see how hard it would be to convert one with a spare sallet helmet. I took a pair of heavy duty metal cutters to the top of the head on the figure (just below the hat) and did the same with the beard peaking from under the helmet. This was followed by some more cutting with a hobby knife to remove the excess metal on the top of the head/bottom of the helmet and then a lot of filing to get a nice flat surface (head should be filed back to just under the nose). The bottom of the sallet helmet isn't completely flat, so a small gap remained on the front and the back, but a tiny amunt of greenstuff quickly filled it. I think I spent about 20 minutes on this, most of which was filing away at the parts. It didn't even occur to me to get out my dremel, which may speed things up.

Anyway, I think the result looks pretty good and I'm now considering whether it might be a good idea to give the same treatment to the other 3 bodies and throw them in a mould for more variation.

Well, would save me the trouble :) - so could be tempting saying "yes". Looks really good - and Svennn's conversion seems even more straight forward. And the sallet suits the plated armour on that guy (though it's difficult to see on this picture :)).

So a hole plug-in set of Sallet's?? Hmm! think I'll prefer a mix, but if some people are asking for hole Sallet units, why not? Seems like a "small" investment.

Yes, I remembered your conversion too. Though it seems we went about it differently as you kept part of the beard that came with the head. I chose to keep the original beard that came with the body in order to avoid having to resculpt part of the beard to get it to fit with all the different hand plug-in options and also to keep it as close to a 100% Pickford mini as possible out of respect for John's work.  :)

Well, the current versions of the figures will remain available and they are only packs of 4 so you can still mix and match if you get the two sets.  ;)

In my opinion Svennn's conversion is probably as close as yours. The basis for this is the front-facing pose, right. As he has a rather small head I think it can be replace without much effort - and the sallet-head seems used without any conversion at all.

That kind of conversion won't work for the side-facing poses, though ;) Here is you method probably more true to the original sculpt.

I think he cut down the beard though.  :)

Now that you mentioned it .... :)

Open sallet from set #2 might work - unconverted - though.

But I'm not cuting off an head on my precious dwarfs to see if it fits.

One of the current set 3 poses already uses the open sallet though.  ;)

Yeah, that will give you two opened and two closed ones. What else could a man ask for?

Well, threee things:
- the current open visor one stays in set 3 where it is now.
- I'm not fond enough of the open visor head to want two of them on the plug-in bodies
- the idea is to do 4 faceless trooper variants in the new set, all with closed visor and no feathers.

I've decided to follow through with the idea of converting the complete set of the action poses with sallet helmets and offering them as an additional choice for core infantry troopers. Since they are fairly uncomplicated conversions, these should be able to go straight into a productionmould, so it shouldn't take very long to get these released.

The last 3 went together a lot faster than the first one I did. Here 's a picture of all 4 of them:
