Garden Cabbage Heads
« on: September 17, 2010, 02:52:08 AM »
A short while ago someone had done a small garden plot of various greens and such. In it they had used something for heads of lettuce that was right on the mark looking good. Anyone remember what article it was so I can view it? I tried the search engine for Lettuce and garden but no luck for me.

Thanks

I think I know what you mean, I just have to think hard of what search criteria to use to find it. I'm pretty sure the garden stuff was all pre-made products made by a German manufacturer, but I don't remember the name.
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

The Captain did somehting lovely with cabbages on his F&IW board.

I've also seen a few examples of little rose buds (or similar) from card making suppliers used as cabbages.
My LAF Gallery is HERE

You can get silk paper roses/rosebuds from craft/hobby/decoupage stores, I think, intended for cards and 'scrapbooking', yes. They might actually be worth a try.

Now I want to make a cabbage field.  o_o

Anything from Railway model manufactureres tends to be extraordinarily expensive.

The ones I'm remembering were on the expensive side... but VERY nice...

Do belive Cabbage was what was made from some sort of flower bud? Plastic or decorative for cake decorating? It was a fairly close up shot of a garden plot with 3 or 4 different types of plants in it, including the cabbage. I keep seraching :)

I think Busch is the manufacturer I'm thinking of. They make some fantastic scale plants. The pumpkins are high on my wish list!!

The Lard Island News had a nice little article about making them with artificial rosebuds: http://toofatlardies.co.uk/blog/ . You have to scroll all the way to the bottom.

I don't know if this is a viable option for you, but I really like Siflor products.  Here are cabbage and couliflower heads at Scenic Express:

Like this...

These are just Woodland Scenics medium green 'bush' or 'clump' foliage pieces, stuck on indiviudally in neat rows.

I think it gives the effect. Honestly I doubt anyone's going to be paying that much attention to the accuracy of your 28mm scale brassica  ;)

(Although I suppose it looks a bit more like curly kale...  :D)
