WIP - Dollar-store Spidermecha
« on: October 18, 2010, 02:03:54 AM »
As inspired by gloriousbattle here, I went to wal-marx and found the rubber-ball spiders he mentioned.  They were amazingly cool, so I got some.

Materials:
-Spiderballs
-Those ear probe things from the doctor
-tinfoil
-Legs from a Reaper Miniatures spider-demon (thus disqualifying me from the Dollar-Store part of the contest if we were having said contest)

I'm not satisfied with them.  What do they need?

The other things I've had suggested are antennae (sewing pins pushed through the rubber to meet like cybernetic antennae in the spider's heads), fins on the back (I think I agree) and chin-guns (I also think I agree).

Those are pretty fantastic already but how about some pincers?

I'm a great fan of simplicity, so I think they look quite nice as-is.  I might carefully black-wash over the metal parts, being cautious not to get any on the ball.

I agree with Chairface. Rivets, but on bits window frame. Glue thin strips of plastic card/glossy magazine cover with rivets pressed into from the reverse side. It would make the ball look more like a glass cage?

I think they just need a bit of paint.

Yes!

Rivets.

And Yes!

What sort of size are they?  I'm guessing about 2-3 inches long?

I'm sorely tempted to call them done as they are, though I did embed an MP-40 in their chins.

Agreed, these are very cool.  I am happy to have helped inspire them, even if the proposed contest went nowhere.
