Help wanted for classic sci-fi figures
« on: 08 November 2010, 10:44:18 PM »
I'm thinking of putting together a small distraction from painting my current projects game setup inspired by 'classic' comic book sci-fi like Flash Gordon and Dan Dare. I already have figures in mind for the human adventurers. What I need help with is options for the following:

1 - A 'classic' retro looking robot to accompany my band of plucky adventurers

2 - An evil alien humanoid leader (or leaders)

3 - Humanoid minions armed with guns

4 - Robot soldiers

5 - Ideas for making a landed /crashed retro-looking spaceship (NOT a saucer)

7 - Figures and monsters for use as objectives / distractions in scenarios. Any humans should be in space suits.

In order to reduce shiping costs, all figures should ideally be available from UK or European suppliers.

 lol

Matakishi saves the day (again) and we all go home in time for tea! That's a lovely Not-Ming, and a great Flash Gordon-style rocket! I now have to do a Mongo game because ithey're so cool...

I'd also suggest 'look through Froggy the Great's back catalogue of projects', because he has a marvellous array of robots, ships, rocket-bikes and mad scientist stuff built from panel pins, a clothes peg and half a broken video recorder.

You have got to have Hawkmen. It just wouldn't be Flash Gordon with out them (imho)!

This link has a few repeats of Paul's recommendations... but also a few new ones.

Whilst in Florida, I made a bee-line to Denny's for to ask for one of those kids' cups, they, sadly, had stopped doing them.

* Wife's eyes rolling in disbelief, at this point, however. *

For a rocketship working base, you could also try crafts stores such as Hobbycraft - sometimes, they have lentil-shaped wooden vases, which only require topping off (with a plastic hemisphere, or a tip shaped otherwise) and adding fins and rivets.

This has inspired me to start my pulp sci fi stuff. I've shelved my Malayan project until next year and brought this one forward, it's going to be my BLAM 11 game but I may as well get started now, the figures have been waiting quite a while. :)

Nope, I wouldn't use the they're not in the right spirit. I may rebuy my Retrovians though, I haven't decided yet. I have a box full of stuff waiting to go so once that's done I'll look around for more :)
