VSF Engineer Colours?
« on: November 14, 2010, 06:52:59 PM »
Hi,

I've been modding up a couple of engineers for force of British red jacket types (dark blue trousers, tea-stained pith helmets), and for a Belgian force (blue jackets, white/Khaki trousers, white helmets - like some of the Force Publique seen elsewhere on LAF).

What colour would you paint the engineers for each force?  While none of my forces are in any way historically accurate, I'd like to get some advice, as I'm a bit stumped  :?

Both will be scampering about the battlefield wielding hefty spanners and weird VSF devices, tending to various steam contraptions and contrivances.

Thanks :)

This might sound a bit of an odd question but what figures are you thinking of using for the engineers? See, with me sometimes the figure can dictate what colour I'm going to paint them.
Don't!

Nope - that's a perfectly good question :)

Here's a couple of pics of what I have done so far....

The painted guy is meant to be a British engy... but I am not entirely happy with him (partly because he's a WF fig, and they're a bit Jodrell).

The unpainted engy is going to be Belgian... he's a Pulp Figs flag bearer from the Seebattalion range (I figured they would be OK as VSF Belgians - I'm not a stickler for historical accuracy! :D).  He's holding an aether controller that affects the machines he's controlling.

I'm wondering if there's a better colour for the British dude, and a nice colour for the Belgian.

Thanks again!

While the infantry were wearing red, that's what the engineers wore too. Think Chard in "Zulu." He was an engineer remember. An officer could wear a blue patrol jacket instead if he felt like it, though, just like infantry officers.

RE tunic.

Lt. Hart, RE (in officer's blue jacket), winning the VC by shooting some chap's turban off his head (that scores you 100 points, that does).

Ahh! Cheers. Forgot all about the engineers in Zulu - maybe I can use the one I already painted as their senior officer.

Still a bit stumped on the Belgian.  I imagine some inspiration will hit sooner or later  lol

For Belgians you could do a lot worse than look at this website (by LAF member Geudens):

Select the 'WEAPONS AND UNIFORMS' tab, then both the 'Belgian colonial' and 'Force Publique' buttons
