SCW T26
« on: 19 November 2010, 12:23:16 AM »
Scratch that, I need a T-26
Who makes the better T-26?
Force of Arms, Empress or Army Group?? (anyone else make one?)

I am putting together an army for SCW.
I need Panzer I, who makes them in 1/48 or 1/56 (or anything close)
Thanks

Empress do a nice one.

Seconded. I got one of those some years ago from Anglian. Marvellous little piece, although the tracks require some care to properly attach.

1/56th scale, and it does look spot on next to the Empress figures.

The Empress model is really fantastic. All metal with great detail. It's an early Panzer I A

Force of Arms has a Panzer I B in resin and a Panzer I command vehicle.
John also has the modified/upgunned 20mm PzKfw I B in his range.

Willie beat me to the punch on this. The empress model is great, but if you're looking to give your Nationalists a little better anti-tank support, than the Force of Arms 20mm Panzer I is the way to go. I purchased one for a friend a couple years ago. Scandalously, I really need one of 'em myself, but I've been putting it off until I can reinforce my Republican Basques first. (Lots of Euzkadis, not enough infantry.)

As far as I know, the Republicans only captured one or two of the 20mm Panzer Is, so it's really best as a Nationalist vehicle, but a unique and unusual weapon of the SCW at that.

Wargames Command Post have pics of the Force of Arms range.

As for the Panzer I with the 20mm, its use has been greatly exaggerated. As far as I'm aware there were only four converted in early 1937. The project was cancelled because the Nationalists were capturing T26 tanks in numbers, making the conversion unnecessary. The same was also true of the CV35 with the 20mm, 40 were ordered but the order was cancelled. If the vehicles had been deployed, the plan was for a single 20mm armed vehicle in each tank platoon.

As for Republican Panzer Is, I've yet to see proof of one, beyond the odd comment on the internet, that also mentions them being fitted with 20mm or 25mm guns. The Republicans would have captured a few 20mm Breda at Guadalhajara, but the 25mm was a French weapon and the border was closed on 1st August 1936. Although the French had agreed to send artillery and aircraft, only a few obsolete aircraft had arrived by then. That of course doesn't mean that they didn't exist, just that proof is hard to come by.

Army Group North and Force of Arms. Company B do a late model one but don't know off hand whether they do an early one too.

Great Hall Games in Austin TX has some of the photos of FOA vehicles particularly the T26, and panzers both with mg and 20mm

I made the T-26 master for Empress ( when I owned the range as Anglian) its based on the original ones sent to Spain that took part in the defence of Madrid. With a clever bit of filing, and arrangement of the equipment, you can also make the later welded hull version too.

Its an excellent model,  I would say that as i'm completely biased  :D
It is scaled to match perfectly with the figures from the range too.

This plug, while quite shameless, ;) is absolutely justified. It is a marvellous little kit, with superb detail and remarkably easy to assemble (easier than the PzI was).
