EE Ork Boar Rider
« on: November 21, 2010, 07:30:38 PM »
Different skin colour than the standard (both for rider and mount), base not complete because I want to use it in a little diorama. Some minor touch up still to be done.

Hope you like it.

Tom

EE=Evil empire

Looks very good, I have been thinking about creating an elite ork force to ad to my girlfriends goblin horde.

Your colour choice for the pig is awesome.

Not convinced by the bright pink on the pink, but the orc looks fantastic. It looks so much more real than the bright greens they're often painted (including my own).

I think the boar looks incredible. Really good job.

As for the 'red orc' - who ever heard of such a thing?  ;)

Great job - love the boar and although I like my orcs green the reddish brown colouring works really well on the rider.  8)

Look forward to seeing the completed diorama.

Great paintjob, I really like the colour of the orc, makes a difference from the usual green. It looks more real and less cartoony in the more 'flesh' tones. The boar is outstanding too.

EXCELLENT LOOKING MINI! The choice of colors make it uniquely your own...liberating isn't it?! That is the FINEST Boar I've yet to see. WONDERFULLY WELL DONE!

There was a time when also GW painted their orcs brown. I have an old 'art' book somewhere with some examples. Never liked the green ones. Don't know where that 'orcs are green' thing came from.

This looks so much more alive!

My extensive research on this (it came up yesterday in fact on a different forum) tells me it was The Players' Guild and perhaps more specifically Dave Andrews in the mid-1980s. The Players' Guild was (is?) a gaming group that was instrumental in creating such things as the first Judge Dredd gaming table ever featured in White Dwarf (about 1986); Dave Andrews was I believe one of the artists involved with the Warlock of Firetop Mountain boardgame and recently was spotted in White Dwarf waxing lyrical(ish) about Warhammer campaigns. So he's been hanging around Citadel/Games Workshop for about 25 years now.

I suspect the green came from a desire to get away from the whole 'Tolkien was a racist' thing. People can't complain that you're caricaturing black or Chinese people if you paint your orcs green.

Think I've heard that one before....  Though having PC racism issues about how to paint miniatures for a game that is mostly based on inter-racial hatred seems a bit odd to me. But at least it might be the explanation for one of the ugliest things that ever happened to gaming....  lol

Inter-species hatred is fine. Orcs, unlike Chinese people, aren't real.

Don't even get me started on 'Dwarven Imagery and Medieval Anti-Semitism'...
