Heavily armoured goblins?
« on: November 22, 2010, 01:23:45 PM »
Hi,
I'm starting a new warband and would love some heavily armoured goblins with a similar look to the ones from the film 'the labyrinth', preferably full plate armour. Does anyone know of any? I think I've tried most of the well known manufacturers but without any luck so far.
Thanks,
Duncan

Alternative Armies' doomgarde goblins are exactly those!

Unfortunately they haven't been rereleased yet, but I am sure they will come soon. Pop them an email and they can probably sort some out for you, they are lovely models. Can't find any pics at the moment.

If you like that whole Brian Froud inspired look I'd also suggest you take a look at the early citadel miniature chaos dwarves, lots of platemail, very few beards! Just an idea.

It is exactly that odd Brian Froud kind of look I was after. The Black Hat ones are close, not quite there, but the last in the line up is pretty good. Kettle helmets, rag-tag mismatched plate armour, is the order of the day. If you do find any pictures of the doomgarde I'd be interested in seeing them. Hasslefree's multi part goblins ain't too bad either. It looks like I might have to mix and match from alsorts of different ranges if I'm going to attempt what I'm thinking.

Honestly, the Doomgarde are your best bet.

There's also the old Warrior Miniatures range...

I tyhink the code for the AA ones is 'OH15 - Goblin Elite'. If you send a message to AA, quoting that code, they will get back to you aboiut them. I'm sure they have pictures in their database. They only stopped selling them recently, for repackaging.

The Evil Empire has some nice armoured goblins in their Lord of the Rings range. While I've really gone off Games Workshop stuff over recent years for many reasons their LotR range does have a lot of lovely models that are far more sensibly proportioned that their own ranges.

Gundabad Armoured Goblins

Moria Armoured Goblins

Moria Armoured Goblins with Bows

Perhaps a bit too regimented for what you are looking for, but another range to add in if you are going to do a mix and match of gobbos from different suppliers to get a rag tag look.

I think the latter two images are actually collectable miniatures that are very rare now...

EDIT: Because I'm a doofus: if you put Brian Froud or Labyrinth into the search engine you get this topic (link).

The other forum where this was discussed recently was TerraGenesis where someone was talking about making a Labyrinth goblin city board.

The old marauder MM30 goblin officer is fairly heavily armoured:

Found them in the murky depths of Alternative Armies' website.

http://www.alternative-armies.com/Goblins.htm

These ones come PAINTED. However, with a quick email and a quote of the figure, you can get them unpainted for around half the price usually.

Oh and irregular seem to sell a set of armoured goblins in their 28mm range, I couldn't tell you what they look like though.

I'd really like them if they were a bit shorter in the leg.
